Let's start with food. My croissant was as hard as a brick. I ordered two, ate one, left the other.
Service: I sat next to a cabinet. Every minute seemingly a staff member had to get into that cabinet. Do they have gold in there? They were continually opening the door next to me and fussing about in there while I was trying to help a Vietnamese person with free tutoring for an important interview coming up.
Atmosphere: slightly worse than a construction site.
Addendum: So the store responded and put the blame on me. If you make a mistake, own it, don't excuse it. I used to be a repeat customer and on more than one occasion they made me produce my receipt to show that I actually paid - what is that nonsense about?
This wasn't a shift-change problem, I was trying to tutor a person (for free - to help the person) and they kept disrupting. Don't lie, please.
Then they claim they would have replaced a brick-like croissant with another brick-like croissant...no thanks. As for a monetary return, I decided you could keep the money. I pojnted out that your croissants are hard, and you made excuses for that and blamed me.
This cafe doesn't need repeat customers because it is in a tourist area. It clearly does not value repeat customers. It treated me and my student badly and then made excuses.
That's fine - I was kind to the staff every time I went there and this is how they return kindness, by screwing up and then blaming a person trying to use their cafe...

I tried the different egg coffees around in Vietnam, including the famous Cafe Gian and Cafe Dinh. This one trumped them as the Egg cream was just way too creamier and it looked really great. I also ordered a chocolate roll for my son, and I cant really comment much on it as I did not taste it.
Nam also provided us with a schedule of the trains for the nearby Railway Street, although we did not go onto the street.
He also maintains a list to recommend to travellers that he updates regularly.
All in all it was a great Hanoi...

But today I tried a margarita cold coffee here - coffee with lime juice and salt and it was surprisingly good. I'd have had another but it was too late in the day for more caffeine. Tomorrow definitely.
I had intended to sit inside but, while I was ordering, the last table was taken so I went outside instead. DON'T MISS IT!!! It's a great place for people watching and, if you're lucky, you might see a train rattle by.
Edited to add - I went back every day of my...
