This market is really lively and bustling. There are motorbikes zipping across everywhere so it’s kind of challenging to walk and browse. Would advise going at a less busy time so you can take your time to walk slowly. We went in the evening and there were still stalls by the road selling prawns and vegetables. There were many different items sold but we were interested in getting some rice papers, beans for tea, cashew nuts and snacks. The vendor we visited was so patient and introduced her items to us by allowing us to handle her items without getting annoyed like how some often do. She even opened up her snack and let us taste it. In the end after our purchase, she even tapped me on the shoulder as I had already turned to leave to hand me the rest of the rice paper honeyed nuts snack, motioning me to take it with me to snack on it. I was pleasantly surprised by her generosity. She also wrote down the price on a paper as she totaled the bill. So no worries about buying souvenirs there- you can also leave out items if the price doesn’t suit you. Paid around vnd460,000 for a thick stack of coconut flavored rice papers , honeyed rice paper nut snacks, tea beans and a bottle of cashews.
Another vendor selling cao lau noodles was Mrs Van. She spoke good English and was confident and friendly and had a good sense of humor. It felt like your friendly school cook preparing you a meal while you sat around the table chatting with your pals. Her cao lau is delicious and full of ingredients! Definitely worth a try if you’re visiting the market. The market eating area isn’t posh but for an authentic experience give it a try! Visit Mrs Van and enjoy nice broth of cao lau. Don’t be fearful of the outlook of the stall, it’s clean to eat we didn’t experience any tummy aches despite having a tiring day and lack of sleep. She’s honest and her food os reasonably priced! Think it was vnd150,000 for five bowls of cao lau!
It’s a nice authentic local experience ! Make some time to visit this place if your schedule allows it. Would have loved to have spent more time there but our...

Read moreIt's a great place to grab some food and it beats almost anything you can find in the old town. Locals eat here and you can see why. We picked the busiest food stand we could find, which happened to be the beef pho place, my wife and I got a bowl each. Pho in Hoi An tends to be on the sweet side, much sweeter than we're used to in the south of Vietnam. I added like and some fish sauce to make the broth more savoury, as it is my preference. It's a really nice broth, the beef was really nice, so much so our son pretty much ate all our beef. The lady running the food stall was really lovely and extremely friendly. While we were eating our pho, my wife noticed the food stand next to us, while it didn't have any customers, there was a delivery driver packing 15 take away boxes to be delivered. Naturally that meant we had to order a bowl to try. The lady next door was serving Bun Thit Nuong, or BBQ grilled pork belly with vermicelli noodles. It smelled fantastic. We added in the nuoc mam, and we were told that we had to add the home made chilli paste. Be warned, it doesn't start spicy but give it a couple of bites and you're going to be sweating. It's a great chilli sauce and complimented the dish really, really well. I can't remember the prices, I think it was 70k for the Pho (we had one small bowl and one large bowl), the Bun Thit Nuong was 40k. Walk around the old town and when you're hungry, drop by here for lunch. They're open until 6pm. Show these wonderful ladies some love and enjoy a fantastic bowl of food you won't find any better in the old...
