On Wednesday Nov.20, 2024, our group of 4 checked into the Canterbury Inn about 2 pm . Having made reservations thru a 3rd party booking service , we apparently booked the last 2 rooms available . The other couple were travelling with a small dog , and thus inquired if the dog was allowed. We were told yes by the 3rd party service We were at the inn for 2 - 3 hours enjoying each others company. As it was time to dine, the dog was taken for a walk . At this time a man outside the door identified himself as the owner insisting the dog was not allowed. His solution was to leave the dog in the car overnight (so not allowed!!!) The dog owners tried to explain the circumstances and soon the conversation escalated to yelling in the hallway. The owner was very loud and rude, calling our friend a liar. Initially he offered our friends a 1/2 refund and insisted we all leave . As the yelling continued , it became very uncomfortable for the 4 of us. Subsequently the police were called by my friend. Eventually, the owner offered a full discount to get us out ! Replacement accommodations were secured, and then we packed to prepare to leave . Again the owner confronted us as we awaited the return of our husbands. Moments later the owners wife came out and pushed us to go outside to wait , in spite of us explaining our ride was moments away. (it was a rainy cold and dark night) As our husbands arranged for the refund, the owners claimed the refund feature wasn't working , so they will do it later. He said "you can trust us" .Consequently the men stayed at reception desk until refund was processed. Our experience didn't lead us to believe we could trust them. What a horrible , humiliating experience. We are all seniors. We were treated with no respect, patience, or kindness. The communication style by ownership was totally not necessary. Being accused of lying, yelled at in public and inconvenienced negatively affected our trip . Any four of us WILL NEVER RECOMMEND...

Canterbury Inn is using a booking company with many issues at the Better Business Bureau. We asked if 2 rooms available and if we could bring a dog. They advised there were only the last 2 rooms available. Dogs allowed no extra charge. We arrived checked in around 1:00 left our quiet cockapoo in room and went wine tasting. At 6:00 back to hotel to take dog out, owner told my husband no dogs allowed! He said dog must STAY IN CAR overnight. He became rude, aggressive and yelled he would refund 1/2 of our $$$$ if we left. I said but your booking company told me dogs were allowed! He yelled at me that I was a LIAR and to call police! I could get another room very easily. He then said he would give full refund. Read moreRooms were small locks on the windows were not screwed on and were falling off there is no proper air conditioning in the room the vents had broken and therefore the air wasn’t blowing out correctly so it was constantly hot considering this was a four person sleep set up the room only provided 2 cups and 2 bath towels and hand towels bathroom had tiles on the sink that were so old the grout was discoloured and needed to be replaced there is no extractor fan in this room so you had to open the window which was located next to the bath the window sill had a thick layer of dust on it and you could see across the street while you were showering no privacy curtains the room smelt funny too there is no real soundproofing to this room as I could here every footstep made and conversation overall very dated the only plus part was...
