Monastery Garden stands out for the beauty of the restoration work, and the personal welcome from the owners. Here and the Hotel Ebersbach are probably the only two accommodation options in Krumlov with a tangible sense of place instead of generic interiors.
The location is about as central as can be: the castle entrance is directly outside; Parking P2 is 3 minutes away on foot; the main shopping street linking all highlights (Latrán) is on the doorstep. The train and bus stations are easy to get to in 10-15 minutes on foot.
We stayed in Suite number 8, the one in the attic you see in the photos. It offers a great sense of place and history, but failed at some key practicalities: daylight and sleep quality. The small attic windows meant that the room stays gloomily lit all day. The lack of blackouts, feeble cooling and exceptionally hard mattress resulted in a very bad night's sleep three times in a row.
The owners were always present, chatty and happy to help. They spoke excellent English. As a simple guesthouse, there is not much service to expect beyond that.
Breakfast is served to order, not as a buffet. The quality of ingredients and options proved to be very high, especially the coffee. They don't offer the standard continental breakfast staples such as cold cuts, cheese, bread and fruit.
I do begrudge them the extra cost for breakfast. It is extremely clear when booking that breakfast is not included in the rate, but after staying there I can't understand how that's justified. Breakfasts for 2 people added €70 at the end of the 3-night stay. Absolutely every other local hotel with this price and quality level includes breakfast. No pleasant surprises at any time after check-in compensate for the...
Read moreMy husband and I recently spent two nights in Cesky Krumlov. I decided to book Monastery Garden Bistro and Rooms after reading all of the glowing reviews of the place. I'm so glad I heeded the reviews, as I agree that the accolades are well earned.||Although we had some confusion finding the right parking lot to be close to the property, once we checked in, we were able to get situated quickly. The staff at Monastery Garden were uniformly friendly, and we felt right at home. I especially liked the honesty bar, which was a nice touch after a day of sightseeing.||We stayed in Room Six, which is a premium suite. It was marvelous! The bed was a king with a very comfortable mattress. That alone would have been enough for me to be really happy! The room was beautifully decorated, with chic designer touches and a really cool armoire that had a door opening into the huge bathroom with a clawfoot tub! ||The room also had two televisions. One was mounted on the wall by the huge sofa, and the other was hidden in a beautiful wooden cabinet.||I think my favorite part of the stay was the two breakfasts we enjoyed. They were delicious, and yet almost too beautiful to eat. ||We stayed in four hotels on this trip, and Monastery Garden was the one that stood out for being a great place to get to know people. It really has a lovely homey atmosphere to go with the comfortable rooms. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone staying in...
Read moreI’m not a fan of dark and heavy traditional decor style. Monastery Gardens (MG) hit the right notes with their tasteful handling of the retrofit of an old building. Their modern take on traditional style was right up my alley. I wanted the experience of staying in an old town like Çeský Krumlof in a centuries old building and MG delivered. Located in a small alley next to the CK’s monastery, the ambience was unique. With just 10 rooms, each room is different and we stayed in a spacious double room. The bathroom is accessed from a “hidden” wardrobe door. There was sufficient wardrobe and shelves, a frequent problem I encounter in hotels. The bathroom was old style but with modern plumbing with a charming claw legged bath tub.|There’s no staff in attendance after 5pm. We appreciated that we could help ourselves to still and sparkling water on the house at the dining room. The “honest bar” trusts the guests to record alcoholic drinks they help themselves to.|Breakfast is ordered a la carte and so delicious. It was much better than the buffet breakfast at most hotels and reasonably priced. |Many restaurants are in close vicinity and so is the castle entrance. We enjoyed walking back along quiet cobbled streets back to the hotel every night. |A very charming stay and unforgettable for a total Çesky...
