Ok, we travel quite a bit and stay at nice hotels and "experiential" hotels (ones that we know are going to be trashy and fun). This hotel looked nice online but was absolutely what we would categorize as an "experiential" hotel (think Red Carpet Inn). Here's what I liked and disliked.
Liked: Great location - Long Street is two short blocks away and is lined with great bars and nightlife. There are also fantastic restaurants everywhere. The city center is a short walk and is absolutely beautiful - think cobblestone streets, fountains - and there are tons of restaurants, bars, mini-marts (liquor/snacks/water/souvenirs), historic sites, and shopping. There are people everywhere just walking around and there is access to public transportation (trolleys, buses, and the subway), too. Breakfast - The convenience of being able to grab breakfast downstairs at the hotel was key for me. They offer a pretty hearty and yummy breakfast with eggs, sausages, waffles, pancakes, an assortment of pickled and regular veggies, fruit, yogurt, Czech pastries, juice, cappuccino, espresso, and tea. Breakfast is included in the price of your room and is served from 7 am to 10 or 11. Access to the rooftop from your room - If you book the right room, you have access to the rooftop where you can view the castle and other historic buildings. It's a great spot to enjoy a cocktail or your morning cappuccino (if you don't mind the bees), watch the sunrise or sunset, or gaze at the stars. Nice staff - everyone was friendly and accommodating.
Dislikes: The room smelled so bad. It had a moist, damp feel to it and it didn't go away. It was bad. No room service - This just goes without explanation. Since we had booked this as a "nice" hotel and not an "experiential" hotel, no room service made me want to cry. Air conditioning barely worked (like, it was wheezing on it's last leg). I found a portable air conditioner in the hall and put it in our room and it was still hot as hell. Cramped room with an awkward layout - If Rob was sitting on the chair to put his shoes on, I would have to walk across the bed to get to my side of the room. Very little storage for clothing and shoes - No dressers, only a wall unit with shelves and eight hangers. Definitely not enough room for two people's stuff. TINY bathroom and extremely tiny shower - I mean tiny - one person at a time. Room smelled like a damp dog - So bad we ended up checking out and going to another hotel. Bathroom smelled like actual pee - Like what it smells like when you walk into the subway. No ice machine - You have to go downstairs and ask for ice and they are STINGY af with the ice (like, they'll give you a cup and that's only if the kitchen is open and that's only in the morning. We ended up having to buy ice every day from the store across the street. Bee hive on the rooftop terrace so you could only enjoy the terrace at sunset and in the evening.
Overall, it's not a bad hotel, just not what I...
Read moreThis was our second time staying at Astoria Hotel and it did not disappoint. ||HOTEL/ROOM/CHECK-IN||When we arrived at the hotel, there was a small queue of other guest checking in/out but it didn't take long at all. It was just as clean, well presented and organised as what we remembered it to be!☺️ We checked in, was given our room number, key cards and all the other relevant information such as breakfast times and wifi passwords. We stayed on the first floor and just used the stairs but there is a lift in the middle that can be used too. The room was lovely and spacious, overlooking the main road. The bathroom did have a bath with a shower aswell and a standard hairdryer attached to the wall. There was tea/coffee making facilities too. The room temperature was relatively easy to control with the dial that was on the wall, and we were able to open the windows if needed. There was a little bit of noise at night time from other people on the streets but nothing major, it didn't bother us. On our last day I found a little sewing kit in the wardrobe which was an absolute godsend because i'd ripped my coat prior to travelling to Prague. ||BREAKFAST ||The breakfast time is 7am-10:30am, I think it can get a little busy at breakfast from about 8am onward but we didn't have any problems as we decided to get up early every morning. There was a decent amount of food to choose from, such as bacon, fried/scrambled eggs, toast, meats, cereal, fresh fruit. Can't fault it at all, it was all hot and freshly prepared. ||LOCATION||As we had stayed here previously in April 2023, we already knew the location of Astoria hotel was spot on. Its literally around the corner from the Powder Gate Tower and only a short 5-10 minute walk (depending on walking speed) from the Old Town Square, where the Astronomical Clock is located. It's a 15 minute walk from this hotel to the Charles Bridge. ||I also just have to mention that the Indian Jewel restaurant across the road does amazing food! ||CHECK-OUT||Check out was at 11am, very straight forward and we paid the tourist taxes on checkout too. We had an evening flight and left our luggage at the hotel which was only a very small fee which was equivalent to about €1/€2. We were given a number and the same number was stuck on both our suitcases so that the staff knew they were ours. We waited in the lobby area for a little bit, before it was time to get a taxi to the airport. The wifi is still accessible from the lobby which is great because it helped to pass the time. ||We've already recommended this hotel to family/friends who are looking to visit Prague next year and when we visit Prague again in the future, this is where we...
Read moreIn this hotel good is only location and choices of breakfast. Don’t choice this hotel because: When I have booked a room on booking.com I had to pay 191.01 euros with all taxes. When I came to the hotel for check in on reception was told to pay 198 euros. I've asked what the reason and I had a confirmation. The reason was-increased the size of the taxes and they didn't care about my confirmation and reservation from booking.com. I've paid 198 euros and began to chat with booking.com about this but nothing! Till now I have no answer from the booking.com why my total amount increased. P.S. 7 euros not much but it could be more . Do confirmation from booking.com in this hotel costs nothing. 2. On reception I've received a key from my room- and the room was not the same as I've booked : it was old and with tree beds. I've asked to change a room like in photos from booking.com. On what I've heard: " Don't look to this photos on booking.com-it is just an illustration!" I was shocked and asked why you cheat people?! But no answer was on this. They give me other room and it was newer. 3. I could not connected to WI-FI and I've asked on reception for a help. And even in this they could not help. The woman on reception said : " Look, my phone connected , what's problem with yours I don't know". I asked maybe someone else could help but of course nobody was. 4. The personal in this hotel is very rude and from the first step to this hotel was feeling like I came to their house and they didn't want to see me and waiting me to go away. Personal speaks English not good, no one will help you, always with such face "what you want". The personal from the bar are eating breakfasts with you, the cleaners in the hotel in Russian are talking how they are tired and should bring breakfasts to the rooms and all that travellers got them. SO, I really don't know who is writing such positive comments or maybe they do this themselves or have some deal with...
