I used Booking.com and booked a room with an interior courtyard view. Instead I got a city view, in other words a room overlooking the very busy street. Including ongoing road construction across the street that began before 7am. I sleep with earplugs so the street noise was not a problem, but it might be for other guests. Also the room had a streetlamp was right outside and shone into the room because the curtains are not flat against the window. They're about 4 inches out. This also lets in the flashing lights from the cinema down the street on the other side of the road that has a flashing marquee across the roof. It was very bright, despite my efforts to use chairs to pin the curtains closer against the window. ||The room itself was fine, very spacious, comfortable bed, enormous pillows, full bathroom with tub, fridge, kettle, tea, coffee, sugars, etc. The room was very clean. ||There is supposed to be 24 hour reception but there was only someone there part of the time - who spoke English so that was great! I believe the hotel clerk does double duty with the sister hotel around the corner and jumps back and forth between the two lobbies. Hire more staff!||Good location. About a 10 minute walk to the train station. 10 minute walk to Old Town. I walked over to the palace on the other side of the river, so if you're a mobile person, Prague is a very walkable city. There are tons of restaurants and shops and ice cream places within minutes of walking out the door.||The area surrounding the hotel is very lively with a lot of younger people on the sidewalks and in the many nearby cafes. This hotel definitely caters to the under 30 crowd in keeping with the neighbourhood theme, so I was too old! It's not a good place to stay for families or people over age 40, or anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful, restful sleep. This hotel is a party palace for the younger crowd. All night long hollering in the hallways. With my earplugs, not a problem. The problem is it's an old building with older infrastructure, and if walls or floors are put under duress, there is vibration throughout all the hotel rooms, including the bed because it's on the floor against the wall. In addition to hollering, the party goers are running up and down the hallways, slamming doors, and body slamming each other into the walls. All of this causes major vibrations - it's like being in earthquakes. The partiers kept me up well past midnight and woke me up shortly after 5am. I pulled my earplugs out to see if there was an emergency evacuation happening, but it was only a beer emergency. So I didn't get a lot of sleep and was exhausted. I checked out in the morning. Or I would have if there'd been someone covering reception.||The hotel keeps their policies on a paper on the table in the room and one of them is quiet hours between 10pm and 7am. And there will be a fine for violating this - I think up to 200 Euros. But like most hotels, this one does not enforce its own policies. This hotel is definitely a party palace. If you're a loud, obnoxious jerk who loves drinking and making a lot of noise without fear of hotel staff intervention - the EA Hotel Rokoko is your dream come true! For everyone else who's looking for a peaceful night's sleep - look at...
Read moreI've stayed at many EA Hotels in Prague over the course of a few years every time I visit the city but this time my stay at EA Rokoko turned out to be a nightmare! Their services, hospitality and the extra mile some of their staff go to really amazed me. Their new manager, Marek however spoilt everything as he is a big time condescending and patronising scammer who will ask you to pay extra for already damaged things in the rooms. First he accused me of causing flooding in my bathroom when it was caused by a leaky pipe on their side. My only mistake was not reporting it and I paid dearly for this. He asked me €120 and the damage was at last fixed by the hotel technician who came with a new hose. I wonder if he pocketed the money as he never gave me a receipt?! I paid a lot, over €1200 for a week's stay here and all I wanted was peace but he kept nitpicking! I spoke to other guests and it turned out they faced similar problems with Marek. The staff especially the front office people are just amazing though.. And then on my fourth day he accused me on staining the carpet and asked him staff to block my access card in hopes of getting money again! If I hadn't already paid I would have left for I felt terribly unsafe staying here now..
During my previous stays here nothing of such has happened before and I truly enjoyed all my stays. The staff are great, friendly and helpful and the rooms super comfortable until Marek the scammer and mafia came into the picture and ruined everything. Many returning guests have the same complaints about him, according to the hotel staff. They also shared with how they were stressed and harassed by him as he is with him making them overwork and stressed. Many of them have to go for treatment for anxiety and depression caused by working with someone like Marek. A few good staff have also left the company because of him. Also the remaining ones shared with me that I'm not the first to face such treatment from Marek but other guests as well. He accused them for things they didn't do and demanded payment. What an extortion! Also a staff shared that many of the guests have now turned to other hotels not wanting to pay extra hidden costs, all because of Marek! I feel angry but I feel more for the poor staff. I will never stay at any EA hotels again, I swear! Or never return to Prague. Worst ever memory. It is sad that when your favourite city and favourite hotel chain become something that gives you stress over leisure and pleasure. It is sad that just because of someone the entire EA group has to bear the brunt. Please get rid of him before it is too late! I did a quick search on reviews and it turns out that the damage Marek accused me of were already there all the while.. and many guests complained about the...
Read moreI've stayed at awful hotels before, but honestly, this has been the worst.
The ONLY "good" aspect is the location. Although, it can get super loud and noisy at night. Don't forget that one of Prague's largest clubs is directly in front of it and the crowds are not quiet in front of the club.
Now, to the negative aspects. I've really had to make a list because the whole stay was unacceptable and the customer service on the day of our arrival was horrendous. No apology whatsoever.
Parking situation We reserved a parking spot in their garage. On the DAY of the arrival, they sent us a message canceling the reservation. Of course, it was then too late to reserve anything else or look for alternatives. The reason for the cancellation according to the receptionist was “there are 7 people in the team, and so one must have made a mistake”. Until today, I can’t figure out how that can be a valid excuse. It took us almost two full hours to find a parking spot available in any of the garages close by.
They have their own exchange rate We booked the room through booking and we got a price in Euro. When we got to the hotel, they told us that we could not pay by card in Euros and it had to be in CZK, which was no problem. The issue was that their conversion was much higher than the official conversion rate. And while we tried to argue that there is one official bank-given conversion rate, they simply stated that they had their own bank and their own conversion. So yes, we ended up paying more.
The cards stopped working We went out for a drink and when we came back at night, the cards simply didn’t work. We were stuck outside the hotel (there is no reception at the hotel building itself, but a couple of buildings down the road). We had to call someone from our group to open the door for us. This kept happening throughout the day somehow. Even though checkout was at 11, they decided to deactivate our cards at 10, so we could not enter the hotel. Again, we had to lose lots of time in line at the reception trying to reactive the cards one more time – even though they should not have been deactivated in the first place.
The room had an unbearable cigarette stench. We tried ventilating it, but it didn’t help at all.
The room was in very bad condition (pics attached). The bathroom walls were moldy and so was the shower curtain, The soap dispenser was not attached to the wall and kept falling, The towels were dirty, The glasses (!) were dirty and used.
We had one person during checkout at the reception that did apologize after hearing what a horrible experience we had had. But other than that, there was nothing salvable. Would not...
