When I first arrived, this girl Maria was the only one at the front desk. There was no greeting, no hi nothing. That’s fine. But what I don’t understand is that how can a front desk personnel be so how do I put it? Uncared. Unprofessional. Rude.
Me: ”Do you need to see my passport?” Her: “No.” Me: ”I mentioned in my email that I would like the lower bunk because I hurt my knee when I was in Berlin.” Her: “No.”
After she showed me the room, which was the upper bunk, I asked her if she has any other room that still has a lower bunk.
Her: “How do you know what room I have or don’t have? This is the only room. Choose your bed.”
At that point all lower bunk occupied, only upper bunks available.
Place my bags on the bed, noticed the flat pillow, and most importantly, I noticed my bed doesn’t have a power outlet. The other row of bunk bed all have outlet next to them. (See photos attached). I noticed there were outlets on the wall (far away from my bed) and since there is no shelves nearby, my cables are not long enough to even place my phone and power bank on the floor to charge.
When to the front desk, asked her “I noticed there is no power outlet beside my bed while the other row have theirs”
Her: “So?”
Me: “what do you mean so?”
Her: laughs “so? What do you want me to do? If you want to charge your phone you can bring it to the front desk or charge it in the common room kitchen.”
I left the hostel, happy mood ruined. Went online and try to find alternatives. Even if I don’t get a refund from this hostel, doesn’t matter. I don’t deserved to be treated like this. I was polite to her, but she chose to be unkind. Please don’t be fooled by the photos they advertised. At least for my room, it doesn’t look like those photos, not even close (see photos attached). I found another hostel nearby for the second night (MeetMe23), I had to pay more, that’s fine, at least they were super nice when I stopped by to ask if they can store my bags in the morning. I asked them if they have a room that very day, unfortunately they are fully booked. I know I won’t be getting my money back from Mandarinka for my second night, that’s fine with me too. I don’t think I want to stay at a place that treats me like scum.
I have attached a photo of Maria. If that’s even her real name. (Sorry my phone seems to want to focus on the map more). I mean at this point I have traveled to a lot of countries in Europe and Asia, she is by far the worst front desk agent I have ever encountered. Her demeanor, attitude shows me that she is not a good fit to be a customer services agent. The entire experience with this hostel is quite frankly the worst. Be warned.
By the way I’m on my way to Vienna, my stay with Meetme32 was beyond excellent. They got a 5 star...
Read moreRead moreThere are a whole bunch of inexpensive hostels in Prague, but I can tell, after having spent 3 nights there, I would definitively return to that one on my next trip-- LOCATION is EXCELLENT close to major touristic areas, 20mn walk to FLIXBUS (florenc) grocery store open 24hours in front of hotel, in a safe neighbourhood, the LIDL grocery store is only at 5mn walk and opens till 23pm and offers cheap food and drinks .If you reserve through the owners website, you get 12% discount and I got a bunk bed in the 24 beds dorm for 880 króna the night( 17.5 euros). Top level bunk bed is SMALL ( not recommended for big guys, take instead the lower beds)STAFF is friendly , efficient. Towels are provided( in previous hostel that was charged 180 k per towel) , beds are clean, KITCHEN is accessible 24hours with free tea and coffee with top class coffee DE LONGHI machine. Free Candies at front desk. Free maps. Free locker (safe and easy to use) and luggage room. 3 individual private showers room with hair dryer in each dorm. Most visitor are respectful and try not to make noise but I agree someone who does not fall asleep easily might be disturbed by the constant door opening/closing/ slamming of the door. Also some visitors don't clean up after themselves but the hostel is not responsible for bad people's behaviour. In total= I doubt you can find a better hostel for that price. 5 stars low budget hostel . Thank you I had a...
The service was boderline de-humanizing. No minimum kindness or understanding. I had an injury in my ankle and the elevator was broken, and still they gave me a room on the 4th floor and were really reluctant to offer me at least the lower bunkbed, to avoid going up and down the stairs. He said at first they didn't have any; it turns out the room was empty and there were plenty of free lower beds. But the worst part: the reception guy came INSIDE the room in the middle of the night while I was literally undressing to get into bed. Then he told my friend that we could not sleep in the same bed when, FIRST, why would we?! (really, it was completely out of the blue), SECOND, we had booked two separate beds so that is pretty self-explanatory, innit? and THIRD, how is this any of his business?!! Really out of line and controlling.
On a side note, but also important: they charge extra in the reception for some kind of tax, and also if you want to change your bed (say, for instance, because you don't want to sleep in the fourth floor due to an injury, or whatever), they will charge you 20€ extra even if there are heaps of free rooms.
And the cherry on the cake: the AC was turned on the entire night even though it was not warm AT ALL and me and my friend...
