I recently stayed at the Esplanade Prague for 5 nights on a business trip and I was very disappointed with the hotel. The staff were very pleasant and helpful on arrival but after booking an Executive Double room on a high floor I was given a standard Double room on the third floor instead. While noise wasn’t an issue on the low floor, the room was obviously of a lower standard and had no Nespresso Machine, Bottle of water as advertised and paid for nor as advertised a working Thermostat (adjustable)(I’ll come back to this).
The bed while comfortable was two single beds pushed together, which is common in Europe but they still had single duvets which made it completely pointless.
The room was extremely warm on arrival so I tried to set the Air Con to a reasonable temp only to find it wasn’t working, I mentioned this to reception and was told they would send someone up to fix it. When I arrived back to the room the air con was still not working, when I mentioned it to the reception staff again I was told (by a different staff member) that air con was disabled across the hotel as it was now “Heating Season”. I ended up having to leave the windows open for an hour or two prior to sleeping just to try and sleep through the night but by 6am it was too warm to sleep, not ideal for a week in a 5 star hotel.
The shower was not sealed properly as it leaked along the wall with every shower, leaving a puddle under the sink. While on face value the room looked clean it took three days before the cleaning staff emptied the bin in the bathroom, the only bin in the room. I know this as I noticed a pair of ladies low cut pop socks in the bin on the first day.
In the end, while I didn’t get the room I paid for I’m glad I was on the third floor as the single lift in the hotel is in desperate need of maintenance, between the squeaking and shaking of the lift and then the fact the door opens before the lift has actually stopped, it doesn’t inspire confidence.
The range of food at breakfast was limited and even then it was sparse, toast didn't even seem to be an option. The restaurant was usually in darkness in the evening and sometimes it took a while to get a barman for a drink in the front room.
The one good point of the hotel is the location, it was central enough and within walking distance for our conference during the day and then tourist sites in the evening.
The hotel is rated as a 5 star but I’ve been in enough 4/5 star hotels across Europe and different hotel chains to say that the Esplanade is more of a three star,...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at the Esplanade Hotel from the 21st to the 26th of October. Despite arriving late at night due to issues at my previous hotel, I was greeted warmly by the front office manager, Zdenek, who instantly made me feel welcome.
The hotel exudes a classic ambiance, with its nearly century-old architecture elegantly themed in a traditional manner. The atmosphere is undeniably charming and adds to the overall delightful experience.
My room was maintained impeccably clean throughout my stay, with daily housekeeping ensuring a comfortable and tidy space. The bedding was refreshed every other day, which I found to be quite satisfactory.
The rooms were not remarkably quiet as there was some noise from outside, but it didn’t disturb my sleep. The beds, though on the firmer side, were comfortable enough for a restful sleep. During my stay, the air conditioning was turned off as it was outside the peak summer period, which led to my room getting quite warm at times. However, a quick airing by opening the window easily resolved this minor issue.
The service rendered by the hotel staff was nothing short of exemplary. Each member of the team displayed a friendly and hospitable demeanor. Zdenek, who worked the night shifts, was always available for a pleasant chat upon my return in the evenings, and offered valuable recommendations for exploring the city. His genuine care and attentiveness significantly enhanced my experience at the Esplanade.
An additional shout-out goes to the ever-present bellmen, who graciously opened the doors and securely looked after my luggage post-checkout, adding an extra touch of hospitality.
While the breakfast offerings were somewhat limited, the quality of the available options was good and I never found the spread to be lacking.
The location of the hotel is another major plus, situated right opposite the train station and merely a 4-minute walk to the nearest metro station and the National Museum. The convenience of the location made exploring Prague a breeze.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Esplanade Hotel to anyone seeking a well-appointed hotel in a prime location. However, on my next visit to Prague, I might opt for an apartment for a change of experience.
Zdenek and the rest of the Esplanade team certainly contribute to making the hotel a noteworthy choice for travelers to Prague, and I am grateful for the...
Read moreI recently had the misfortune of staying at what was supposed to be a prestigious 5-star hotel, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment.
First of all, the room I booked was supposed to be an executive room, but it was nothing more than a mediocre accommodation. One of the main features I was looking forward to was a comfortable double bed. However, what I found in the room were two single beds pushed together and covered with a single sheet. It was an absolute joke. How can they call that a double bed? It was uncomfortable, to say the least, and made for a restless night's sleep.
The issues didn't end there. To make matters worse, the hotel seemed to have a pigeon infestation problem. The room I was assigned happened to be right next to a window that was apparently a favorite spot for these feathered pests. Every morning at the ungodly hour of 6 a.m., I was awakened by the incessant cooing, flapping, and general commotion caused by the pigeons. It was impossible to get any rest or enjoy a peaceful morning in such circumstances. I can't believe a supposedly high-end hotel would allow such a nuisance to persist.
In addition to the subpar accommodation and the obnoxious pigeons, I couldn't help but feel scammed by the hotel. The executive room was supposed to offer a higher level of comfort and luxury, but it fell far short of any reasonable expectations. It was evident that they were trying to pass off a standard room as something more exclusive and charge a premium for it. I felt cheated and deceived by their false advertising.
Overall, my experience at this supposedly 5-star hotel was abysmal. From the makeshift "double bed" to the unwelcome wake-up calls from the pigeons, it was a series of disappointments. The fact that they labeled this as an executive room and charged accordingly is a testament to their dishonesty and lack...
