Candia Suites & Rooms — Hotel in Municipality of Heraklion

I booked two single nights 4 days apart from each other. The hotel was very responsive with my questions before booking.||||I chose this hotel because of the location (15 minute walk to the port - we walked from our ferry), free parking, and the price for the accommodation for 4 people.||||We rang the doorbell upon arrival for someone to let us in to the apartment. The lady on our first visit was very friendly - the lady on our second arrival seemed very rushed and annoyed. Both times we had to wait a while for anyone to show up as they don't stay at the location.||||Both units were very clean and modern. The bathrooms were clean and the sofa bed was setup for our children. The units had excellent air conditioning and FAST WiFi. There was a coffee maker and a cooler. The amenities listed a fridge in the room - the cooler was spacious, just not as cold as a fridge. The unit was very nice but the name “luxury” on the sign in front of the building is a bit exaggerated. ||||The room with the double bed was spacious. We had room for our suitcases. There was a little table and nightstands. We had closets to hang our clothes. The room for the kids was cramped. We had to move the beds to open and close the fridge/cooler. We stayed in different rooms on each visit. The double bed on the second night was very uncomfortable. My wife and I felt like we kept rolling to the center of the mattress.||||Here is my main complaint about the unit. Prior to our arrival, we arranged to leave our car in the parking spot until our flight that evening. When we checked out in the morning, I was told the car had to be moved by 2pm. I asked about the agreement about leaving it until 7pm when I made the reservation. I was told there are not enough spaces and it was not possible to leave my car. I immediately emailed the hotel. They responded just as I pulled out of the garage telling me to leave the car there. However, the person collecting the key said that since we had already left the garage, she would not allow us to return. Also, the parking is VERY tight – maybe 4 inches/10cm between cards. It is underground and secure, but I was worried about the car next to me damaging my rental car trying to get out.||||In summary, this is an ok place to stay. Parking is a challenge. Our room was located in a building just behind the advertised address which was not an issue. Our room was spacious and very clean. The beds were comfortable, the wifi and air conditioning worked well and there was a very small kitchenette with a kettle. We had a minor issue with water in the basin in the bathroom. Once we released the plug the water came up through the drain. So we learned to release the water more slowly. The free parking in the basement was a bonus, however if you have a larger car it will require many manoeuvres to get it out. The arrangement at breakfast was a little peculiar. Breakfast was fine but was not laid out and there was no menu. Instead the lovely lady preparing the breakfast would regularly bring out food as she prepared it. So it was difficult to know what was on offer and took longer than necessary. The location was excellent near the Fortress, restaurants, shops and sights. The staff were polite and helpful. We arrived in the evening on a Sunday and everything went smoothly! Service: It was easy to be in contact with the reception via Booking.com or texting. I changed my arrival time and found that they were flexible, which I so appreciated. The reception welcomed us, explained the entrance procedures and personally showed us our private parking space. He also gave me a solution for drying a bathing suit by hanging it on chairs outside, which did work.

Parking: Just a few steps away is a private parking space. This was extremely helpful.

Room: It was just what we needed for one night stayover before heading to the airport. The room was small, and on the first floor but it was clean and comfortable and well decorated. The bed was large and comfy. The AC works well! The bathroom was modern, clean, and no funky smells!
