Let's start by just saying that 5 stars is not enough for this place. I've given 5 stars to other restaurants that weren't even close. I went there, not knowing what to expect. I saw the menu and I got the impression that it's going to be another wannabe gourmet restaurant with fancy dish names tiny portions high price and mediocre taste at best. I tried to avoid the fancy looking dishes and went "safe". I ordered a Cretan salad and a lamb knuckle with traditional pilafi (rice cooked in lamb broth). The first surprise came with the salad. It's supposed to be a very plain and straightforward dish. Not a lot of room to make it really bad or exceptional, right? No. Not in this case. Every ingredient in the salad was exceptional in taste and quality. Fresh oregano, best tasting olive oil, fantastic white cheese from a village in Rethymno famous about it's cheese and tomatoes and cucumbers that taste just like the tomatos and cucumbers my mother grows in her garden. And then the lamb came. Oh boy, that was the best dish I had for I don't know how long. Maybe for ever. The lamb was melting in your mouth and tasted like heaven. Even the pilafi which is not easy to make perfect was simply that. Perfect. This is the first restaurant I find in Heraklion that I will be looking forward to visit again. The attention to detail was what made the biggest difference. From the fresh bread and rusks assortment (most likely home made by the chef) to the carefuly selected ingredients for even the simplest of the dishes, to the perfect cooking of a traditional dish that it's so easy to mess up. And as an epilogue, a house treat in the end of some home made ice cream with biscuits and sour cherries along with some raki that unsurprisingly was just as perfect as the rest of the order. Needless to say that this restaurant is highly recommended to...
Read moreGreat service and excellent atmosphere and good location. The dishes look very beautiful. We ordered the quinoa salad which was a bit disappointing considering the size and the price of the salad since quinoa is not an expensive thing to find. The Crudo was very tasty, the sauce it comes with is amazing and the fish changes daily depending on what the chef prepares. The avocado cannelloni was the more creative dish. The one downside is that the dish is under the “to share” section and it’s not an easy dish to cut and share equally. It would be easier to either restructure it to sushi-like bites maybe. The gnocchi with cheeses was very tasty but it arrived lukewarm so unsure if it was meant to be served hot or cold. It arrived at the same time as the Pesto Calamari which was very hot. The pesto calamari was tasty but the presentation wasn’t the best. The plate was small and it was also under the “to share” section. The red salmon: The dish was very pretty. I thought all the veggies served with salmon were more interesting than the salmon itself. The salmon was quite boring. The ragu was amazing. Everyone loved it. Excellent flavour. I wouldn’t say creative but very satisfying, and felt like home. I would recommend this place if you want to try some new dishes. The people working here are very nice, the service good but it did take about 45 minutes for us to order. Definitely a fun tasting experience in the heart...
