If you're gonna spend all your time exploring and only need a cool room to come back to at night, then this is the place for you. If you want a bit of modernity and a place up to western standards, then try out Magpie Residence nearby. Otherwise, you can stretch your money by staying at Hutton Mansion Heritel!||||Wifi was down for the 2 nights I was there, but there was a working one from the restaurant downstairs on the 2nd nigh that was pretty fast. The place needs some renovation, but at the low, low rate of 23-25RM (including the bed tax for the mix dorm) during peak season, don't think that'll happen anytime soon. Cheaper to book in person. I paid 23 a night, but the sign outside said 25; I didn't ask why. Wasn't full during peak season, so it's fine to rock up without a reservation for a dorm bed.||||AC is on at night and sometimes it gets turned off during the day when no one is in the room. Plenty of seats for lounging throughout, but not downstairs. Definitely not handicap accessible as there's a flight of stairs you gotta walk up to the main area. There is no curtain, but some cubicles have a string strung across for you to hang a towel to use as a curtain.||||Not too sure if you can wash your clothes at a laundromat and then hang it near the lounge, as it's an open air space, but I saw clothes being hung to dry. There is laundry service available at 4.5RM a kg.||||Owner is friendly and is fluent in a few languages (e.g. various Chinese dialects, it seems).||||Brekkie is still toast and jam. Coffee and tea is still available all day.||||This place gets 4/5 for giving you the most value. Do understand that value comes at the...
Read moreWe stayed in a "private" room that was terrible. Staff were lazy and stayed up very late talking just outside our room. The room was very hot, had no air flow and the bed was just okay. Previous guests had left some drink glasses that were not removed. Communal toilets and showers were just okay as was the free breakfast (toast and coffee). Don't be fooled by the word mansion. After we left this guest house we moved to Hutton lodge, about 300 metres away which was so much better (separate review if you're interested). There are so many better options in Georgetown: the people who own this place should not be rewarded by anyone staying with them. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get our key deposit back as the manager was not there at 11am, even though the guy who took the deposit was there. I don't think it was a scam to get some money from me, they are just...
Read moreCheap and cozy dorms for the price of 20 RM. Great wifi in the room, your own outlet next to your bed and perfect temperature in the room for the best sleep! The staff is helpful, really cheerful and informative. You can also book alot of transportation from the hostel. We meet really nice people and it seems that this hostel is a great hub if you want to meet other backpackers. The only downside i could think of was the dull and limited breakfast. But if you are satisfied with a slice of toast and some jam then stay in Hutton...
