I thought I would visit this place and try to find some pastries which I could buy back home to try. Visited on a weekday the shop was quite empty, but upon walking in was amazed by the variety of items that they were selling. I felt so happy looking at the display that I wanted to buy and try one each then buy more and bring home and share with my family. Unfortunately there were quite a number of items which were not recommended to keep for more than 2 days, basically because the pastries were freshly made without preservatives. I decided to just buy a few and try to finish them within 2 days and was disappointed I couldn't buy more. Tried a couple of them and would say the overall experience was good and would definitely try them again. First was the egg tart. Nothing to fault the egg custard and the tart shell was to my liking, not hard and not too thick. Then had this small little ball like pastry which was actually a tau sar piah and had durian filling in it. Very unique and nice and very short shelf life so really have to come Penang for it. The chicken bun had a nice flaky outer layer and the meat was well cooked. Very tender and not too sweet suitable for young and old. Last one was the wife biscuit, very nice and fragrant wintermelon filling, soft and not too sweet too. A very good traditional store...

The picture from the poster looks attractive but so normal, small and look not fresh. As in doubt, I still grab some of it, some kaya puff and walnut biscuits. The egg tart was way too overrated, it’s even worse than any one shop from Ipoh, the puff layer was thin and not well prepared, egg filling texture was less and taste doesn’t really bring out its flavor. The walnut biscuit tastes just like a normal cookie, didn’t bring out the flavor. Kaya puff was so so.
The price was above average, portion was small, the problem is that it’s not worth the values as the food wasn’t up...

The aunty at the kitchen recommended their fresh "leaf wrap rice" that was just prepared. We ordered a few more things including the enticing egg tarts.
Overall all great flavors and tastes. There are definitely different than some of the "Siew Pao" I grew up with but still pretty tasty.
We love the egg tarts. We personally like the shortbread version but the flaky pastry is quite good. Think layer with lots of eggs, creamy filings. Not too sweet and perfectly baked custard.
I read about their story and glad we had the chance to experience part of...
