Pleasant Stay at Sevilla Palace Hotel in Mexico City
Rating: 4,5/5
I had a wonderful 3-night stay at Sevilla Palace Hotel in late July 2023. The hotel's prime location on Paseo de la Reforma, right in the heart of Mexico City, made it a perfect choice for exploring the city's attractions, such as the Revolution Monument, Angel of Independence, Diana the Huntress Fountain, and the Palace of Fine Arts, all within walking distance. Public transportation stops for Metrobus, trolleybus, and tour buses were conveniently located less than 100 meters from the hotel's entrance. There were several Starbucks cafes, diverse restaurants offering breakfast and business lunches, pharmacies, huge shopping center Reforma 222 and banks nearby.
Check-in and Interior: The check-in process was seamless and efficient. The staff was exceptionally welcoming, courteous, and friendly. They spoke English fluently, making communication easy for non-Spanish visitors. The hotel's aesthetic interior, beautiful elevators, and relaxing lounges on each floor with city views added to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The rooftop featured a heated outdoor pool protected from the sun and a hot tub.
Room Comfort: My room was well-appointed with a large comfortable bed, a soft armchair, and a work desk. When they noticed two laptops, the housekeeping staff thoughtfully provided an extra chair for our convenience. Additionally, the missing TV remote, which I had requested the previous night at the reception, was promptly brought to the room.
Breakfast: Though my room rate did not include breakfast, it was available for an extra fee. However, I found the breakfast cost slightly overpriced. For two people, it amounted to $650 MXN.
Wi-Fi Connectivity: The only downside during my stay was the Wi-Fi quality on the 22nd floor. The connection speed was insufficient for work and comfortable internet browsing. Interestingly, the Wi-Fi functioned much better around the pool area. During check-out, the hotel staff acknowledged this issue and recommended next time requesting a room on the 8th to 10th floor for better internet connectivity, assuring that they are actively working to resolve the problem.
Overall, my experience at Sevilla Palace Hotel was delightful. The central location, attentive staff, and comfortable amenities provided an excellent base for exploring Mexico City. While the Wi-Fi issue was a minor inconvenience, the hotel's effort to address it demonstrated their commitment to guest satisfaction. I would gladly recommend this hotel to fellow travelers and look forward to staying here again...
Read moreWe stayed at Sevilla Palace for 10 days in March, and had a wonderful stay. This hotel is ideally located on the Paseo de la Reforma, one of the main avenues of Mexico City. It is a few blocks walk to the nearest Metro station, and the public bus stop is almost directly in front of the hotel. Seniors note: regardless of your nationality if you are a senior |( " adultos mayores") you can ride the Metro and public buses for free. You are literally waved on! Interestingly, some of the staff at the hotel were not aware of this municipal benefit for its older guests! And the busses are modern, and very comfortable double decker's. |There are two restaurants on site, one open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and one, very elegant, open only weekdays for breakfast and lunch. Both serve excellent food, at reasonable prices, and the service is universally great.|Although not the newest of hotels, it has an elegant atmosphere. Rooms are large and fully equipped. Upper floors have a city view, and there is a delightful rooftop swimming pool, with great views of the city. |Staff at reception and at the concierge desk were unfailingly helpful, especially in ordering a cab. "Zocolo", the old center of the city, is a 10 minute cab ride, for about 12$ US. However, if you have enough Spanish, you can simply hail a cab yourself and perhaps negotiate a lower rate.|Speaking of Spanish, it should be noted that this hotel appears to be very popular with Spanish speaking guests. Staff told us that although they have international guests|( many from the US, Canada and Europe), perhaps 75% of their guests are from Mexico or other Spanish speaking countries. Staff at reception are mostly bi-lingual, but many others ( wait staff, housekeeping, help desk personnel) speak only Spanish. So, knowing at least some Spanish will make your stay there that much easier, and good practice!|The hotel is also located just around the block from La Plaza de Revolution, with its Tower of the Republic. And a wonderful lower level national museum....but everything is in Spanish.|The airport and the regional bus stations are about 25 minutes away, and we took a great, comfortable, well outfitted bus (ETN) from MC to San Miguel de Allende, a trip we'd recommend. Beautiful Spanish colonial city!|From the glass-enclosed elevators, to the almost elegant lounge ares and dining room, to city views, to location, to reasonable rates and helpful staff, Sevilla Palace is a wonderful choice. |We would highly recommend this hotel, and would stay there again, without a doubt. You'll find an unhurried, old...
Read moreThe entire place has faint smell of raw sewage.||The drains in their showers are backed up and overflow into the bathrooms. The sinks all gurgle. They obviously have serious plumbing vent problems. When it rained, their roof leaked. There were buckets and tarps to catch it in the lounge are.||The queen size beds advertised are not even full size. I strongly discourage anyone over 66” tall book a room here. Our feet hung off the end of the beds.||A strange man banged at our door very early one morning. I tried to safely open the door with the latch in place. The latch fell off the door. This is a major security risk. I asked the manager to fix it, instead he moved us to a lower quality room with a view out the window of a wall. ||The same morning. I received notice from my bank that the hotel was trying to charge my card again. I paid in full for my stay up front. This was a fraudulent charge. ||At first, the manager offered a partial refund for our stay. However, a few minutes later, he arrived at the room we were packing up to be forcibly moved. He had two security personnel with him and he was there to inform us he was dishonorably revoking the refund offer with no reasonable explanation. ||These three men then escorted us to our new room very rudely. They offered zero help with our bags and belongings we were very obviously struggling with. They did not give us enough time to pack our things. We had to go back to the old room a few times to retrieve all of our items because we were so rudely rushed. They treated us like trash, not guests. Their behavior this morning caused me to have a physical panic attack. Again I was offered zero assistance for this medical incident they caused. ||The pool area is a mess. It is a beautiful view but the pool is falling apart and it is not supervised with staff. There were no towels stocked every time we went to swim. Our last day when I called for the towels, They came up with 16x30” bath mats rather than towels. It was ridiculous. The pool rules say no food or drinks in the pool. Other guest were regularly drinking alcohol in the pool while swimming. There are no locker rooms or showers to ensure people are showered before entering the pool, as per their own rules. ||This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my...
