Overall great service, the location and the atmosphere were amazing. The drinks were fantastic, the free chips and salsa were good, the bread was delicious, the appetizer was fantastic,…but then it went downhill fast. We got our main courses and one was disappointing, the other was inedible. The chille relleno was alright, but the breading was very soggy and greasy. My partner ordered the pork rib in cdmx style and it was probably the worst plate I’ve ever tried, it smelled bad, the meat was mostly cartilage, the flavor was grease, we couldn’t eat more than 2 bites. When I paid the bill the server asked how the food was, and I was honest, the manager came over and was very kind, he offered us a free dessert (which wasn’t great but I really appreciated his sentiment) The manager is the reason this restaurant isn’t getting one star. It was overall a disappointing experience, I assume most of the reviews are fake.

I believe that not all reviews can be considered genuine. This restaurant, in my opinion, is average and falls short of the 5-star reviews it receives. One thing worth mentioning is that the restaurant appears to be quite empty, which creates an unusual atmosphere. During my visit on a Saturday evening at 8 pm, I noticed only four other occupied tables throughout the two hours. The level of service provided is satisfactory, and the quality of the food is decent. However, the price is slightly high considering the overall experience and food quality. If you happen to be in the vicinity and feeling hungry, it might be worth a visit. However, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to dine here.

I'm puzzled as to how this restaurant has a 4.9 rating on Google Maps or is listed among the top 20 restaurants in Mexico City on TripAdvisor. Despite making a reservation, I found the restaurant empty and no one at the reception. The waiters didn't speak English, forcing us to communicate through Google Translate. The service was slow, and they didn't accommodate my request to avoid certain ingredients. While some dishes, like the tuna ceviche and steak, were good, overall I found the experience lacking. I feel the restaurant is overrated and seems like a tourist trap.

Completely Disappointed on Christmas Eve We had been looking forward to a festive and luxurious Christmas Eve dinner at La Distral in Puebla, but the experience was nothing short of a nightmare.

After carefully following the restaurant’s instructions and making a deposit via wire transfer to secure our reservation, we arrived only to be told they had no record of our payment. Despite showing proof, they refused to honor our reservation, leaving us stranded without a dinner plan on such an important night.

To make matters worse, the staff’s behavior was unprofessional and outright insulting. The hostess tried to avoid addressing my husband, insisting on speaking with me directly in Spanish, even though we both clarified that we both speak English and I fully understood the situation. It was clear they didn’t want to engage with him because he spoke English. When we repeatedly asked to speak to the manager, one of the hostesses claimed they weren’t sure if he spoke English. However, when the manager eventually arrived, he spoke fluent English—proving they had been dishonest.

Additionally, the hostess blatantly lied about not speaking English herself, laughed in our faces, and refused to let us escalate the issue in a meaningful way. Their deceit, lack of accountability, and complete disregard for customer care ruined what should have been a joyous celebration.

La Distral’s handling of reservations and customer service is unacceptable, and I strongly caution anyone considering dining there to think twice. Our Christmas Eve was completely ruined due to their incompetence...
