First off, everything was quite acceptable. The staff, with the exception of the guy in charge at the front desk were very friendly and competent. We arrived after flying for 17 hours and a harrowing taxi ride (it was our first time in KT) so getting to our fairly comfortable room was a relief. We had tea in the spacious reception area and enjoyed the old world touches and the fact that we were right in the thick of things in Thamel. Throughout our stay the staff handled all our requests ( laundry, food at the restaurant, directions, baggage storage) with ease. After a day or so we did start to notice the worn down aspects of the building- it needs a serious remodel and there was a grimy feeling to the place, This was made worse by the construction going on right outside that obviously used to be the large grassy area with tables and shades to relax in that is shown in the photos on the hotels website. Dont fall for the photos - they must have been taken in the late eighty's. Overall not a bad place but for the price there are simpler, newer hotels without all the old school bells and whistles in KT that are actually cheaper and perhaps due to their newness are a bit more...
Read moreI was traveling with a large group and organized a week's stay at Hararti. Even before we arrived I had emailed the manager who arranged all our rooms with heaters and provided me with the information I needed. Everything was ready when we arrived including transportation from the airport at midnight for our group of 50! We settled in and the next morning had a breakfast buffet downstairs at their restaurant that was more food than we could eat! Eggs, pancakes, toast, Nepali tea or coffee, etc. The location is 5 minutes walk from the trekking shops and restaurants in central Thamel. The staff here are super helpful, speaks English, and willing to help in any way. Our group also used their conference room which was perfect for our large group meetings. There was filtered water available for us to fill up our water bottles too. Our group was given a great rate to stay here. We had someone go to the hospital because of illness and the staff gave us the name and directions to the international hospital which was perfect for helping treating her. I would highly recommend this place and will stay here...
