Kantipur Village — Hotel in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

What a joke of a hotel. Was meant to stay here for two nights for the second day I was asked to move to another hotel which I agreed to in order to help the company as they had made a mistake and overbooked. In return they had offered to comp dinner however they failed to explain that this did not include any drink ordered and then attempted to charge thereafter for something I would not have ordered if they had communicated effectively. They then also tried to charge me the higher rate of their hotel for the room across the street which was of a much lower standard resulting in an argument. This was largely a result of Aktesh at reception who was not appropriately trained having only been with the hotel for four months and never worked reception before that day putting way to much stress on him to try to resolve issues that he was not capable of. On top of this they also lost copies of my passport and part of my laundry got misplaced and returned to the wrong customer. I recently spent several happy days staying at the Kantipur Village. It was my second time staying there (I also stayed last year after doing the Manaslu Circuit). It was such a joy to walk back into that lobby and see the smiling, friendly faces. I won't belabor the point, but just let me say this: Kantipur Village gets it all right. The location is great - close to the heart of Thamel and Durbar Square, but down a quiet street so it feels calm. The design is stylish and thoughtful. The rooms are extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are great and their new coffee shop is awesome. But, it's the people that make the difference. They will remember your name, what you need, where you're going and they'll do everything they can to help you. You'll feel like family, in the best way.
