Monique's gorgeous little B&B could not come more highly recommended! My boyfriend and I stayed with her for just three nights, but agree that everything about our stay was just perfect. Monique was very accommodating and so very welcoming. We arrived a little later than expected, but it was absolutely no problem for her. She greeted us with a friendly smile, with tea and Dutch biscuits, and a big map where she showed us all the best bits of Amsterdam to visit. As for the room itself, Monique has decorated it to the highest standard! The bed is incredibly comfortable (featuring a memory-foam mattress for a highly relaxing slumber). And the bed linen smelt just delightful! A bonus for light sleepers: the curtains are blackout so they let absolutely no sunlight in; and there was virtually no noise from the hustling, bustling street below. The bathroom was pristine - perfect if you're a bit of a clean-freak like myself. And, I know this has already been mentioned in another review, but the towels were really soft and nice. Definitely a welcome change from some of the other apartments and B&Bs I've stayed at. (They smelt great too!) Finally, the kitchenette has everything you need to make breakfasts, light lunches and light dinners! Including a complimentary bottle of wine. Overall, a first class apartment! In terms of location, again, Monique's B&B is situated perfectly in the heart of Spui (pronounced 'Spow'). With some great little bars and restaurants literally on your doorstep, you'll feel like you won't need to venture any further from this street. But if you do, you'll need only walk 5 or 10 minutes in any direction to reach Amsterdam's most famous attractions! It's stunning museums, Vondelpark (for Londoners, it's like the Hyde Park of Amsterdam), Leidesplein, De Pijp, Jordaan and of course, the famous Red Light District. There's also a supermarket just around the corner and a cute flower market opposite. Overall, we'd like to thank Monique for making our first airbnb experience so delightful! She's set the bar incredibly high for our next hosts. We wish her all the best and hope to be...
Read moreFirst thing's first- the location is amazing. A few minutes away from Dam Square, has 4+ coffeeshops within 100 mr from the b&b, and has TONS of bars and restaurants outside.||The room itself was pretty nice. It has a comfy bed, a mini fridge, a shower aaaaaaaand that's basically it. No kitchen, no sink for the dishes, no dishwasher / microwave on the 2nd floor as described. ||The evening of the second day I messaged the host asking for more toilet paper, since we're middle eastern and our noses started running like crazy when we arrived freezing Amsterdam. Her reaction to my request was followed by a cynical comment, and directions to the closest drug store so that we can buy tissues ourselves. Pretty stingy for someone who gets paid 800 euros for 5 nights, if you ask me. She did agree to bring us some more rolls, but she made us feel bad for asking - even tho the hotel's guide book said you can get more TP from the closet on the second floor (which obviously, they didn't have either).||The rooms don't get cleaned during your stay, which was fine since I'm not sure is part of the service. I guess you can ask her to do your dishes in the dishwasher but we didn't want to contact her for anything after her first reaction.||The building itself if paper thin. The washing machine on our floor made us feel as if the building was about to fall down, you can hear ANYTHING that goes on in the building, such as vacuum machine noises or wild screams, that woke us up 2 mornings out of our 5 days. ||Last but not least, you can't smoke in the room (which is mentions in advance), so if smoking is part of your daily routine, going up and down those stairs every 30 mins would really get you down.||As someone who's been in Amsterdam 5 times, this is the most poor and hostile||service I've ever gotten from any other host, and the most I ever paid per night.||Truly, you can find something cheaper, that allows you more privacy to do whatever you'd like to do...
Read moreJust got back from a 5 night stay at Monique's which we thoroughly enjoyed. ||The B&B is located right next to Spui and is the perfect base from which to explore Amsterdam's idyllic districts and canals. It's super easy to get to - just a few tram stops from the central station. Despite being in the heart of the city, we had no problems with street noise at all and just found it wonderfully convenient. ||Housed in a beautiful, traditional building, the accommodation is elegant and comfortable, although it's worth noting that due to the traditional nature of the architecture, the stairs are extremely steep - we were however able to manage and didn't find this to be a problem. We stayed in studio 1 on the first floor which had a lovely big bed with tempura mattresses, a small kitchenette (equipped with glasses, plates and cutlery, nespresso machine etc) and a small but functional bathroom with a fab powerful shower. There was only one small downside to the room which is the fridge motor can get pretty loud and create loud vibrations from the kitchenette unit. We easily found a solution though and thus it didn't bother us (meant to mention this to you Monique but since everything else was so great, it totally slipped my mind!)||Breakfast is not included in the room rate so you either need to make your own or there is a good quality breakfast cafe close by that Monique will order you breakfast from for delivery or eat in. We were however, really happy to go out and try new breakfast places each morning- with so many amazing cafe's in the area we were spoiled for choice. ||Monique is a charming, friendly and incredibly thoughtful host who made us feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived. Equally up for socializing or leaving you to your own devices, nothing was too much trouble. ||We would happily recommend Monique's to anyone looking for a comfortable, charming and convenient place to stay...
