Me and 4 of my friends went had an amazing mini vacation in Amsterdam. On our last evening we went to this restaurant called ''loetje'' after we heard some very enthusiastic story's from local people, and i have to say the meat they served was amazing, never had a spicy beef before, but it was a very welcome change.
But after that we sadly made the BIG mistake to drink a last beer on our trip back to the hotel in this bar called ''Hoppe''. I dont even know where to start, very very rude and grumpy employees. It was quite quiet ( half the tables were empty ) but still it took them more then 10 minutes to ask if we want to drink anything, and the best part was that it took them more then 15 minutes to serve us our 5 beers, which were warm and flat when they reached our table. We decided not to complain about it and just leave after this drink, but first i had to go to the restroom. What i found there was the dirtiest, smelly and unhygienic toilet i have ever seen in my life. I am sure toilets in the average prison are 5 times as clean, even if they haven't had any ''restroom cleaning budget'' in that prison for over 3 years, you know now when im thinking about it, even the average moveable toilet on a 3 day festival where they only serve taco bell are cleaner as this ''restroom''. When we asked for the bill we had to wait another 15 minutes ( not kidding ) before we finally got it, sadly there were multiple mistakes on the bill aswell. Apparently we ordered 6 glasses of wine 5 beer and some snacks, after we told the waiter about this mistake we got told that that was the bill for our table and we just had to pay it since that's what their register displayed. After a discussion of 5 minutes the ''manager'' finally came to our table to wich we had to explain everything all over again. After our explanation he walked away whitout saying anything and the waiter came back with a normal bill. We paid the bill but got quite a rude look when we asked for our change.

Read moreRacist rude young bartender. Honestly if you're going to be racist you might as well put up a board saying that you are unwelcoming to some folks instead of making us go through a terrible atmosphere. The bartender told my partner he wasn't welcome inside because he had a waffle in his hand which my husband told him he intended to discard in a bin and was looking for one. It wasn't what he said then, it was his tone. Which is why we didn't know better and asked for a spot to be seated. When we asked for a drink that was highly reviewed and my husband requested to know how it was supposed to be drunk (as in with water or ice) the bartender said - with your mouth. Thereafter it was just a cold weird space and the saving grace was an older gentleman who took over. We'd ordered their beef croquettes and because we weren't feeling good about the whole situation we asked our bartender to give them to us to go. He said that they didn't do that and luckily the older gentleman stepped in and offered. My husband said aloud - you learn something new everyday and the young bartender instead of feeling any guilt got offended and was mocking us in conversation with another guest. The older gentleman who had a much kinder tone with us took over the billing thankfully...
Read moreVery cool, but a bit touristy.
Cafe Hoppe is always on my list of places to take people when they come to visit, but mostly for the historical novelty. This cafe has existed for over 300 years, which is super cool, and they have things like sand on the floor that they used to do back on the day (if you ask they will tell you that it used to be for people to be able to spit their chewing tobacco on the ground, and thus make it simple to clean up by simply sweeping away, though I don't think they would be very happy if you spit on the ground these days).
Aside from all the historical novelty, the cafe itself has an odd layout, split between two house size buildings. It is almost always busy, for better or worse, but with a really good mix of tourists and locals. The staff is quite nice, though you can expect typical dutch service here.
Their beer selection is pretty typical of a fair size cafe, as is their bar snacks menu. I have never had a sit down meal here, and I actually think it would be a bit awkward with how crowded it usually is, not to mention the...
