Where to begin? Was a nightmare from start to finish. I suffer with coeliac disease and prior to booking with Dante restaurant I noticed on their menu they were able to provide gluten free alternatives for their pasta dishes. I had booked a table at 8pm but arrived at 7:45. I apologised for being slightly early and asked if myself and my friend could sit at the bar and have a drink whilst we wait. The host said that was fine and ushered us to the bar. Once we arrived at the bar we were met with extremely rude staff who physically moved us out of the way without asking if we were okay. I then asked the manager himself if there was a free table and chairs we could sit on whilst we wait. He refused to make eye contact with us, looking at his phone, and told us there was no where to sit. Was not helpful in the slightest and made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. When our table was ready, after spending 20 minutes awkwardly stood at the bar in everyone’s way, I ordered gluten free pasta. The waiter did not ask whether this was an allergy or an intolerance so I presumed this meant that they take gluten free clients seriously. After waiting 20 minutes the waiter returned and told us that there was no gluten free pasta left- he should have told me this immediately! He said my only other option was a gluten free beef burger which was absolutely fine. The burger came an hour and 15 minutes later and I am certain that the bun was not gluten free or that there was definitely some cross contamination. I unfortunately spent the next 3 days of my trip in Amsterdam bed bound due to having a reaction to the food. It is lucky I was not admitted to hospital as coeliac disease is something to be taken very seriously. I also asked for my burger to be cooked medium. I hope they sort it out because their advertisement is a lie. Would not...

Our reservation was at 8pm on a Friday night. We were there earlier so we were seated around 7:50 pm. We ordered a couple of cocktails, one salad and two pizzas. The cocktails arrived after ~15 mins and that is the only good side of the story. We were waiting and waiting and no food was coming. The people at the other -empty- tables were also looking for their food.
We got our pizzas at 9:50 after we repetitively complained to the waiters!!!! The response was that the kitchen is small and there is basically no capacity to cook for so many people.
In the end, we asked for a discount and the manager decided to give a 10% discount for the 2h of waiting for the main course. That is 7-8 euros of the total amount which I find ridiculous :) not to mention that the other tables received different discounts so no idea how this 'discount' policy was decided.
Since it is the second time that I visit this place for food and I have a similar experience (the first time I was waiting for 1h for food but I thought it was just a random occasion), I am very confident to say that I do not recommend it and despite what the people seem to respond under the negative comments, the 1-2h waiting is THE STANDARD.
The service is bad and given all the similar to my experience comments that I see, they do not really bother to improve it.
For a restaurant in the center of Amsterdam which has hundreds of new tourists on a daily basis, I find this not acceptable and not professional. It is a pity because it is a nice place but now definitely in...
Read moreLooks nice from outside but when we got inside there were only two waiters on duty and no one to show us to our seat or even greet us. We sat down and although a waitress came over to give us menus, it took a long time to give our orders. Eventually after I grabbed one waiter's attention, he took our order. The wait for our food was a long time as well. It seemed even people who came in after us were served their food first. My boyfriend gave in 2 euro to ask a barmaid could she change it to two 1 euro coins so he could use the 1 euro phone charging facility and she gave back 1.50. Eventually our two margherita pizzas arrived. My pizza tasted very salty but i let it go after a few more slices as i was hungry. However, the salt taste was becoming overpowering and I decided to examine the pizza to discover there were actual big sea salt pieces engraved into the base of my pizza and all over the plate underneath the pizza. The base was also very burnt. I tried my best to scrape off most of the salt chunks. I stopped eating after that and quietly explained to the waiter about the salt. He took the plate back to the chef and came back a bit later to apologise saying "part of the oven base mustn't be cleaned properly". We were stunned. Although the waiter took my pizza off the bill and we understand it was not his fault, the whole experience was...
