As you walk in you see 5 display cabinets offering for sale cakes, sandwiches wrapped up in clingfilm, meat and vegetable pasties, coke cans and other cold drinks in a six foot high cooler. For a restaurant and bar there is no visible draught beer pump displaying beers such as Kingfisher or even Heineken: in fact there is no draught beer available, only bottled beer and the menu scrubbed out at least two of these items. I couldn’t help thinking that this establishment has its feet in two camps - convenience store for passing traffic, and Indian Restaurant. We had booked online. On arrival the chap I took to be the Manager/ proprietor did not welcome us and show us to our table: instead the waitress pointed in the general direction of tables where me might decide for ourselves where to sit. There was plenty of choice as during our time in the restaurant there was perhaps 5% occupancy with many empty tables. This contrasts with two restaurants serving ethnic food a stones throw away both of which were full. We visited on a Wednesday evening when Auckland had a lively and vibrant night scene. I’m afraid that the restaurant permeated indifference from the moment we arrived and throughout our stay. On a more positive note the food was good and given my observations detailed above I would not dissuade anyone from eating here. The pappadums disappointed though. They were the ones the size of old vinyl 45 rpm singles we used to buy (think Beatles, Jerry and the Pacemakers and New Seekers). You can get them in supermarkets . I prefer the freshly cooked crispy ones prepared in...
Read moreI was living in Auckland last year. This place is located in Anzac Avenue and it’s a 10-15 minutes walk from my place of accommodation. This is the first Indian restaurant that I have visited in Auckland. When I ordered roti and paneer curry for the first time, I was shocked to see rice coming along with the paneer curry. That’s when I realised that rice is served as a complimentary dish for curries unless I specify that I don’t want them. When I visited this restaurant from December 2022 to June 2023, I met a man and woman from Punjab who were nice and friendly but after June 2023, I haven’t seen them whenever I visited this restaurant. The staffs here are good. Whenever I visited this place, I usually order garlic naan, roti and some paneer curry. The food here is so yummy. I have tried almost every veg curries here and they were amazing. From November 2023 to January 2024, I have explored their non-vegetarian dishes and they were delicious too. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been in Auckland. I will miss this place. I recommend Indians and even non-Indians living there to try the Indian...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant to have our dinner last night and really had a BAD experience.
It was mentioned in the restaurant entrance that 20% off is available for students. But after having our food, when we made the payment, we missed to inform that we are students. However, when we asked for the discount later, the staff said that the payment had already been done.
Firstly, what really disappointed us was, the staff didn’t even inform or remind us if we know about the deals/discounts they have. To attract or retain any customers, staff should take an initiative by explaining their deals.
Secondly, when there are many ways to return back the discount money after the payment is done, the staff didn’t even gave a try to do that. Returning back money by cash or back to the EFTPOS card is not too hard to do, when a business really values a customer.
Moreover, it should not be expected that the customers should remember the discounts that they have displayed at their entrance.
Hope this review/criticism will be taken by the management in a...
