We stayed for three nights in Alona Swiss resort. The complex itself is set in a very pleasant complex away from the noisy road, however we struggled to sleep as light sleepers due to the roosters next door. Unfortunately I can’t award more than three stars as we really did struggle to get any sleep during our stay here. ||Pros|The host (Swiss guy) was absolutely lovely and a true gent. |Location is away from the main road so very peaceful during the day|Nice areas to lounge around by the pool with beautiful trees and plants to gaze at|Extremely good value for money |Room was a decent size considering money paid |Shower was great, one of the most powerful we’ve had in Asia so far :-)|The security guard in the day time was a total legend ||Cons|We really struggled with the noise of animals, namely roosters/cockerels screaming at each other every hour from 1am. I could even hear them through my ear plugs. This was worse than usual for Philippines and Asia having travelled for around three months. Perhaps it was just the room we had however when I mentioned the trouble sleeping to the receptionist (lady) she didn’t seem very interested. A shame as the other guy (believe the owner) was lovely. |The pool was also quite dirty, lots of dead flies and insects in it. Yes, to be expected in this environment however they didn’t seem to make an effort to scoop them out regularly as was the case with other resorts. |Note there is no restaurant, so you have to leave the resort for breakfast etc. Shaka across the road however is a great place and thoroughly recommended! |Odd bathroom design with toilet right by shower which made drying a bit of a challenge - although not the end of the world. ||This place is a great stop over if you are a heavy sleeper, to avoid the roosters it may be worth paying a little more for a villa / bigger room which are located in a different section. Not an option for us as in a...

Read moreStarting out with the positives. The staff were extremely friendly and tried their best to help with the shortcomings we experienced. We loved the pool and outdoor environment as it was welcoming and helped give us the feeling that we were actually in a tropical location. The shortcomings first started when we had trouble locating the resort. It's location was down a long alleyway off a small street that took you past the kitchen and laundry facilities of another resort, not a great 1st impression. Next, Alona Swiss made us believe the resort was not tucked away behind other businesses and homes. Yes it was private, but just a little too much for us. More disappointments greeted us, the WIFI was a super bummer. They claimed to have 12 different options, only the pool's version seemed to work, but was not reliable at all. Our room's TV options were abysmal. We were there for 4 nights and we weren't able to watch any TV. Our bathroom was missing the bidet toilet sprayer, so we were unable to rinse our bum and yet we were still required to not flush toilet paper down the toilet, gross.... I will say that the shower was pleasant and a welcome respite to our stay. Overall, we wouldn't stay here again unless it was the only...
