Been lookin for an affordable place to stay in Bohol and Moonfools is one of the places that was shown in agoda.
Aside from the rate per night, the style of their bunk beds and lounge area caught my attention. The bunk beds look like the capsules in japan. The place looks neat, lounge area looks comfortable and fun too.
When I got there, the bunk that was assigned to me was different from the ones that caught my attention online but I saw those bunks too. I was assigned in a room with 8 bunks and my bunk was at the farthest part of the room and at the corner which I like.
I thought I would have a hard time staying at this place but it felt otherwise. I thought it would be uncomfortable. Even if it is a shared room I still felt the privacy because my bunk was at the corner and there is a curtain on every bunk bed. So you can still stay hidden in a room of 6-8 people. Lol. Washroom and comfort rooms were surprisingly clean. I didn't have a hard time taking showers compared to the common washroom from other places and it looks cute too. There are hooks and hangers where you can hang your clothes and also a soap dish. There are bidets, tissues and the flush are working. A big plus!!
There's wifi at the whole place even inside the room. Love their common area bec. It is the place where you'll get to meet other solo travelers and talk. Breakfast was served at the common area where you can have unlimited toast, jam, butter, coffee, hot chocolate and bananas
Other things I love about the place is that it is near everything and it is very convenient. There's a bar downstairs called The Lone Star Bar and Grill. They offer buy 1 take 1 cocktails at P99!! There's also a convenience store and the place is just near the tourist information where you can book all of the tours you'd want to take while in Bohol. Moonfools is just a 5minute walk from Alona beach and a 5 minute ride from Dumaluan beach. The place is also walking distance from all of the nearby bars and restaurant. Talk about everything in one place huh?
They also offer affordable group tour packages but if you're traveling solo I suggest that you book your tour at the tourist information just beside the hostel bec. It's cheaper. They offer reasonable prices and can join you to some of the other tourists. They have bikes and motors for rent too.
If you want to use one of their lockers you have to bring your own padlock. Unfortunately, I didn't know about that and there were no available padlocks for sale so I always make sure that my macbook is securely kept everytime I go out. Uhm, actually I just made sure that it is well hidden under the pile of clothes on my bed. Haha. Good thing it didn't get stolen.
I really enjoyed my stay here at Moonfools. Great value for money and I would definitely recommend it if you are traveling solo. I also extended my stay here for another 2 nights 128522

Read moreAs someone who is conscious of his travel spending, it has dawned in me that we really do not need much money for us to become a more eco-friendly traveler. And one action I frequently do is by staying at a hostel. I’ll save for another post the reasons why I love staying at hostels.||||Moon Fools Hostel caught my attention when I was looking for a place to stay at prior to my Bohol trip. It wasn’t there yet when I last visited Panglao in 2015. Without much information about this hostel, I relied on my instinct that it’s probably one of those few accommodations I’d love. And boy I was right… The moment I entered the hostel, I already knew that it was my kind of hostel – an eco-friendly one.||||I was happy to have had a great conversation with one of the owners, Mari. That is when I have learned that she and her husband are very passionate about the environment. So it isn’t surprising that the materials used in the construction of their hostel are mostly recycled. It is very admirable as to how they have made use of recycled materials from their curtains (coffee sack) to pillowcases, bedsheet, plastic cups turned into plant pots, lamps from old jars, and even recycled wood materials turned into chairs and tables. Moon Fools Hostel shows that the very essence of recycling is re-using.||||My stay at Moon Fools also comes with a simple breakfast that you get to prepare on your own. It usually consists of oats, raisins, mallows, some spices like cinnamon and nutmeg plus your choice of drinks (coffee, tea, or chocolate). Plus bananas too!||||I also like the fact that they have these little ecotourist reminders all over their place – from the bathroom to the dining area. The local staff of Moon Fools is the usual endearing and respectful Boholano people. During my 2-night stay, I have noticed that I was the only Filipino.||||What else to expect with Moon Fools Hostel:||||All rooms have air conditioning.||Free WiFi is available from the lounge area to the rooms.||The hostel offers airport shuttle services at an extra charge.||The hostel has a shared communal bathroom.||A 24-hour convenience store, a cafe and a restaurant are found on the 1st floor of the hostel.||There are motorcycles and bicycles for rent.||Water sports facilities are...

Location is perfect! Right in front of the Alona public bus stand. Alona beach is less than 500m away and a short walk through the lively area will get you to beautiful blue water! 🏝
The hostel is run by a very fun and enthusiastic team and they speak good English. The owner Mari is a delightful soul - so catch up with her if she's around. She's got interesting lifestories to share and inspire you!
The rooms and dorms were well-maintained and clean. We stayed in the private room (2 person dorm) but checked out the mixed dorms too. The bathroom and toilet area is HUGE! No need to wait in line at all. Very pretty decor everywhere including the common washbasin area where they've used a lot of reclaimed materials. Really liked this 😊
The common area is warm and well lit. Good for working on your laptop, or reading a book. They even have a small library there. The common area has a built in kitchen which is very very well stocked for a hostel (and the prices are about the local supermarket rates).
Free Breakfast was very delicious. Big variety of bread, oats, cereals, nuts and raisins (not cheap 😋), choco, coffee and teas, fruits and marshmallows (yay!)... And they have rice too (if you're feeling Asian). Never enjoyed a hostel breakfast like this before!
Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. You can catch the public bus, jeepneys (PHP50) or tricycles (PHP250-300) to Panglao airport, Tagbilaran port or Dao bus terminal (in case you want to head deeper into Bohol). There are many scooter and bike rental shops (PHP 300) and gas stations around the hostel too. You can book shared tours at the hostel or take suggestions from the helpful staff to do your own...
