We stayed here for several nights in December whilst travelling round the Philippines. I booked the hotel knowing it was basic, but feel it lacked even the most basic things that would have made the stay good. When we arrived at the hotel there was no one around, we shouted hello until a lady came to check us in. It didn’t feel like a particularly friendly welcome, we were just handed a form with no smile or hello. She knew very little English (which wouldn’t be fair to expect) but it made communication a little difficult so we didn’t feel as though we could ask for information on the area etc, and didn’t see any other staff we could speak to instead during our stay. We were shown to our room but not long after realised that the large sliding window didn’t lock (it was broken) and we didn’t feel comfortable leaving our possessions in the room whilst exploring when it could simply be opened from the other side and climbed through. We showed the lady and thankfully the room next door was vacant so we stayed in there instead. The air con was a little noisy but worked just fine, the room seemed clean, there were some kitchen facilities which we didn’t use but it was good to have a fridge to keep water and drinks in, and the WiFi was sometimes temperamental but generally worked perfectly fine for using the internet in the room and watching Netflix etc. We were provided with no toiletries in the bathroom, not even soap to wash our hands with which I feel is quite poor, and nobody came once to our room to even empty the bin in the bathroom, which isn’t great when toilet paper is required to be placed in the bin not flushed down the toilet. Overall the stay here was okay, I didn’t leave thinking ‘this place is horrible’, so I think if you’re on a budget it suits as a base to see the area and go to the beach, but you could probably find nicer accommodation for a...
Read moreupon arrival, I though I'd walked into someone's private property. I think the people that run it do live there but that's fine. It had a nice little pool although I didn't use it.mit was set back from the main road down a lane which was nice and quiet, however, as a solo female traveller, I was a bit apprehensive walking home at night. The room was spacious and clean and outside on the veranda had a kitchenette, although I didn't use it. There was nothing in the fridge although it stated the prices for drinks but that wasnt a problem. I would recommend it for a budget overnight stay, I stayed in a...
Read moreMenchu's Pension House has kitchenettes for cooking meals which was the reason that my wife and I first tried them out. We were led to believe that the Alona Studios had kitchenettes, which was false advertising from Agoda, as well as the Alona Studios themselves. I was so happy to have found Menchu's, and my wife and I had a great time there. We were always treated well, and cared for very well at Menchu's. It is very clean and well maintained, and it is near all the attractions of Alona Beach. You really can't...
