Overall, I would say that I liked my stay at the hotel. The hotel is generally basic and slightly outdated. At some point, they will definitely need to remodel it, but I must point out that the entire hotel was very clean. My check-in was fast and smooth, and the front desk staff were nice. I booked a Standard Room With Views and got one on the 5th floor (#518). My view was of Gran Vía Street, which was great. Luckily, being on a higher floor helped me avoid most of the noise; I only heard slight noises from cars. However, if your room is on a lower floor facing Gran Vía Street, noise could be a big problem because the windows are not well soundproofed. My room was big enough for one person. I felt comfortable there. Its design was very simple, the furniture was in good condition, but the walls had scratches and dirty marks. Unfortunately, there was no refrigerator in my room, which is a big minus. The TV was very small and outdated. The bed was somewhat comfortable, and I did not like the pillows much. The bathroom design was pretty, and its size was adequate. Having a bathtub was a big plus. The bathroom amenities were of okay quality, although I did not like their smell much. Wi-Fi was slow in my room; the roaming on my phone gave faster Internet speed. The last thing I need to mention is the hotel’s location, which is perfect! The hotel is a block away from Gran Vía metro station in the heart of Madrid. All the major Madrid sights are nearby and walkable. There are many shops, restaurants, and other types of businesses close to the hotel. For my stay, I paid €124 per night (plus, I used some points from my Meliá Rewards account), and I find this deal overpriced for the very basic quality of the Standard Room. I go to Madrid every year, and I am well-informed about hotel prices in town after staying in many different hotels. I believe that the reasonable price for a Standard Room at this Meliá Hotel should not be more than €80 per night. Anyway, I can recommend this hotel for a short stay in Madrid, especially if your major goal is to be in the heart of town and you do not care much about the hotel’s...
Read moreMy wife, our friend and myself stayed at the Hotel Madrid Gran Via 25 for a week in May this year and had a great time. The location of the hotel could not be better as it is right in the centre of Madrid with lots of bars, tapas bars, cafes and shops all around the hotel and, because the hotel is so central, you can walk to most of the main attractions in the city.|Should you want to travel further afield then you are very close to metro stations.||The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. They were very knowledgeable about visiting places of interest and were much more helpful than the Tourist Information offices. We wanted to visit Santiago Bernabeu stadium and as one of our party uses a wheelchair we could not find an easy way to get there by metro . Laura on reception who was really good, again sorted everything for us and we had a fantastic visit. The staff on reception also sorted out transport to visit the zoo and see the pandas.|| The breakfast is fantastic with a huge choice of hot and cold food freshly prepared and if you get a table by the windows you get a great view of Gran Via. The staff in the breakfast room were very helpful and efficient. We were going to have our breakfast at a local cafe until Laura persuaded us to eat in the hotel and we are so glad we took her advice and ate at the hotel as it was fantastic quality and value. ||The rooms are basic and clean and although the hotel is right in the middle of one of the busiest parts of Madrid, the rooms were quiet. ||It is a pity that there is no bar in the hotel although there are lots of bars and mini marts within a few minutes walk. The hotel does have some vending machines providing soft drinks and confectionary.||The Wi-fi was free and easy to use.||We would definitely stay at the hotel again. ||Chas, Karen...
Read moreWe're just coming to the end of our stay (myself & my son) & I havr been hugely impressed with the hotel.
The staff are lovely & very polite & helpful. The entrance to the hotel is clean & smells gorgeous!
The rooms are basic but very clean & comfortable. We had two single beds & there was plenty of walkaround space. Enough storage for two in the double rooms (not many hangers in the wardobe though). There's a table & two chairs, a bedside table each. There is a TV but every channel is Spanish (obviously, we're in Spain!) but we had other devices we could watch/listen to stuff on so not a problem for us.
The bathroom was great! A good size & very clean. The shower was great, even if it did take me 10 minutes to work out.
Our window looked out onto Gran Via (shocked that they actually opened fully without any safety lock - something to consider if you have young childten etc).
The breakfast buffet is perfect. A great selection of everything - hot, cold, pastries, fruit etc. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juices! The dining room is spotless & very funky. There's also vending machines which do a great vanilla coffee (plus lots of other hot drinks) for just €1! There's a cold drink & a snack vending machine too, aswell as one with travel plugs etc.
Gran Via itself is a massive shock to the system if you're a country lass like me. It is chaotic! The mornings are much quieter than the evenings but even so, very little noise filters into the rooms.
I've given 5 stars for location as it is perfect for anyone used to the city & a stones throw to the Metro & every...
