I stayed at the Hyatt Centric Madrid Gran Via for 4 nights during the NYE/NYD week with my family. Overall, the hotel is a great option for those wishing something located in the heart of Madrid and great service and atmosphere. Beginning with the pros: all the staff were wonderful. Everyone greeted us warmly and helped us out whenever they could with whatever we needed. We needed a taxi to get to a restaurant for New Year’s Eve and we reserved one in advance but unfortunately the taxi services were overloaded or something. The staff went out of their way to order us taxis through their own personal ride sharing app so that we could get their on time. The breakfast is also wonderful with lots of variety and options for everyone. Everything is very fresh and the staff at the restaurant were wonderful as well accommodating to our requests. A member of group is a wheelchair user and they accommodated the tables so that she could sit at the table with us. The rooms were also spacious and were nicely decorated. We liked the nespresso pods for some espresso in the morning. The rooftop bar is also nice. The GM of the hotel also personally introduced himself during NYE and said if we needed anything to not hesitate to ask. That was a nice touch. Cons: the main entrance into the building is not accessible for wheelchair or those with reduced mobility. We understand the building is historic but it would’ve been nice to share the same entrance as everyone else. They do have a separate entrance that is accessible so not that big of a con. The other major con we had with the hotel was bathroom accessibility. The shower in particular had no bench for those with reduced mobility. We had requested a bench and they gave us a beach chair looking thing that hooked onto one of the grab bars in the shower. From the beginning, we noticed the chair did not feel stable and felt very flimsy to which we alerted the staff to. Instead of switching out the chair or replacing it with a bench, they just attempted to fix it with a piece of wood so that it wouldn’t “shake”. The chair still felt flimsy and a couple of days later, the chair actually broke in half and split. This caused the wheelchair user in our party to fall to the ground. Thankfully she was ok, but that was a serious issue. It’s disappointing that our concerns were not taken seriously when we made the staff aware. We understand European regulations for accessibility are possibly different, but the hotel should really take a look at ADA rules and regulations for hotels so that something like this does not happen again. I know this probably does not affect most people, but I think it’s important for others to know if you’re traveling with someone with reduced mobility that your concerns may not be taken so seriously here when it comes to things like that. Other than that, the hotel really is a wonderful option and we would still recommend despite our issues. Hopefully, changes will be made in the future so that all may enjoy...
Read moreThe hotel is located on the equivalent of NYC's Broadway; so, it's a necessity you have you car turn RIGHT onto the side street to unload your luggage. The check-in and lobby area is on the small side, but the hotel accommodates. Before we got to our room, we became acquainted with the 3 available lifts available to guests: 2 by the main entrance and 1 behind and to the right of the bar; I suggest the latter, but all 3 lifts are small and you should allow time to get to/from your destination.||As Globalists, we were upgraded to a junior suite gran via view (430-484 sq ft). This was an open floor plan, clean, lots of natural light. For our 5-night stay (and a total of 13 nights abroad), we found the storage space more than adequate. I also really liked the design of the bathroom, bathed in white marble and a small seating area.||Also, should you stay here, and it's your first time in Madrid proper, you will notice references to cats, or gatos, throughout the hotel. If you've yet to be on a tour that advises you about the whole gatos thing, just ask the staff at the Hyatt Centric and it will make for a quirk in your stay.||Minor observations: |Housekeeping was incredibly efficient: they started early and always seemed to have your room ready whenever it was you returned to your room - and they were thorough, too. Morning breakfast was good. Other Hyatts have had better offerings, but the staff were incredibly friendly and a very nice group to wake up to each morning. The men manning the Gran Via entrance have this sixth sense and hone in on you from a mile away, ready and waiting to welcome you back. Likewise, they very attentively have the doors opened for you with smiles, always ready to assist.||As for the hotel's location, I really don't think you can do much better than the Hyatt Centric. Almost everything is within walking distance. We took a tuk-tuk tour around the city the first day and went by the usual 5 hotels; and, in my opinion, the Hyatt Centric is better placed and more attractions accessible. While this may not be true with other major tours, we took a day tour to Segovia and Avila and our pick-up point was so incredibly close.||As a basis for comparison, my partner and I stayed at another 5* property in Madrid upon our return from Morocco; stay at the...
Read moreA decent four star is the feeling you when leaving this hotel. Let’s look at the reasons why you should stay here: perfect location in the city center that enables you to walk to all key monuments and shopping areas. -concierge gives an excellent service and goes beyond their regular duties to make your stay enjoyable. Their usage of what’s app is a real plus to be in touch with each other and manage our day in the most efficient way. breakfast is served on the first floor with a view on the busy street below thanks to very large windows, which makes the place bright and welcoming. Breakfast Buffet is what you can expect from this type of hotel nothing fancy but nothing missing. But unfortunately there are many downside. Hyatt manage this hotel and did not build it however whoever the architect was he must have had his diploma in a fortune cookie.the hotel is only 8 years old but you feel like it was build in the 50”s. Color code is grey, red, dark wood and white. The floor is made of wood but it was not properly isolated so when you walk on it in winter you think you are walking on a stone floor. Our room smelled sewage and we could not figure out where it was coming from. The shower is either too hot or too cold but could not get the warm temperature. A friend of us was in a suite but no bath was available contrary to a crescent sofa totally uncomfortable. But the biggest downside of the room is the toilet in the bathroom. How can you build a hotel in 2018 and not separate the toilet from the bathroom? I know many people think their morning routine smell like roses but it DOES not. Any married couple reading these lines will know what i mean when it comes to their partner point of view on this topic! gym is quite small and could have done with a rowing machine and a seating bicycle. the bar attendant are nice but they are not enough of them and you are left waiting for too long if the room is crowded. So if you dont mind these points, the location , the concierge and a competitive price in winter will bring you here. If you want real luxury you go to rosewood or four seasons but you...
