泰辣 Thaispicy Hotpot ฉงชิ่งหม้อไฟ — Restaurant in Si Lom Subdistrict

I’ve been here 5 times so far. For 399 baht per person - this is possibly the best mala shabu buffet place I have had in bkk. The ingredients are high quality. You order on an ipad with pictures. Service is great. Soups are spicy and flavorful. Selection of sauce and condiment bar is so good. Dessert and non-alcoholic drinks are also included. You can upgrade to 499 and 799 for more premium items but I found that 399 was more than good enough. The soup is 99 baht for the whole table to share. The fried mantou and sticky rice were unexpectedly so good and a crowd favorite!

You can book private rooms upstairs, where there is a private bathroom inside and everyone gets a personal pot (1 soup only). There is no room charge for more than 5 people but you do have to pay for the soup separately for each person (49-99 baht/person).

Note: If you don’t finish your food, it is a fine of 100 baht/person and if you exceed 2 hours it is +50 baht for every +30 mins extra.

I decided to try out this hotpot given high reviews, and it disappointed in every aspect in food and quality. I chose the 399 THB because some items I want to eat, and I ended up throwing up afterward , and stomach pain. The only fresh things from the menu is probably the vegetables. I ordered frozen fish, and it has foul smell, and the beef looks intimated with fake vein from China. The shrimp is size of pinky finger, and not even worth it.

What is more frustrating is that when I submitted my order for thb 399, then the staff told me some expensive items are not longer available, such as as pig brain, and other veggies. This is a way to scam customer, for paying higher price and then tell you things you want to order are no longer available. Moreover, they charge additional for soup base + soda (or you can get the free drink from the fountain which has disgusting taste). They do not mention that when you are in the waiting area , which makes you think it’s all inclusive , which is not.

Not recommended this place! Avoid...

I had no issue with the dining experience. The food and the servers were just fine.

We had an issue with the payment at the end. We had overstayed the given 2 hours and we were asked to pay extra. This would be okay except we were not given reminders by the staff, and we had no idea our time had paserd. We pointed this out to try to get clarification.

10 minutes later, a worker came into the restaurant in his pyjamas. He was called back into work to sort this out. He explained that he had finished work before our allocated time slot ended, and was unable to remind us. A very minor mistake. We also were made aware that the restaurant will charge him for this.

We think to charge him for this, as well as calling him back into work after finishing is not a good way to treat workers. The mistake he made and the punishment was not proportional.

We don't feel comfortable supporting this, and I think the management should rethink how they treat...
