Beautiful hotel right in the centre of Bourton on the Water. Our Room was lovely, lots of space and spotlessly clean. The room included Breakfast in the main building and plenty of choice from Granola and Croissants to Full English and Salmon and Poached Eggs. We ate at the Italian Restaurant in the hotel twice as found getting booked in to any restaurant in Bourton extremely difficult as all busy so would highly recommend booking restaurants well in advance. The hotel restaurant is called L'anatra which is an Italian and food was absolutely gorgeous. On the second night when we struggled to book anywhere in Bourton for dinner the staff at L'anatra were so helpful and moved things around to get us in for dinner. All the staff from Reception, housekeeping and at Breakfast and Dinner were really lovely, couldn’t ask for more. Our experience at this hotel was amazing and we have recommended it to all our friends and family. Thank you to everyone at Chester House Hotel, we will definitely be back.

Please note: this review is based only on the price of drinks we had at the bar, we did not stay in the hotel and we did not use their restaurant. My wife and I were there on the 2nd of Dec and we only had a small glass of port each. For this we were initially charged £22 (!!), when I complained to the lady at the bar she brought it down to £18 and told me she could "put it through another way" on the till. £9 per small glass of port is exorbitant and spoiled the experience for me as this is a rip off. On a positive note, the place is in a beautiful location and was nicely decorated. We were the only people in the bar, which is probably a giveaway as to their prices. We won't be returning there.

Nice, strategic hotel in Bourton with free parking (18 spaces for 22 rooms, first come first served). You are literally one block away from the River Windrush. We stayed in Family Room (4 adults) upstairs. Spacious bedroom with open wall in between two beds. Small bathroom though. Wifi is weak on furthest spot in the room. We could reserve dinner at onsite restaurant. Staff is of good service though we were kept quite long when checking out because they were too chatty with the other guest. A small gift, yellow little duck, was given to us as a memory. Breakfast was good with selection of 6 hot breakfast types

Bourton-on-the-water is the most exquisitely beautiful place in England I have ever been to.

It is 'chocolate box England' at its best and like stepping back in time to when these iconic English villages were completely un-spoilt.

Every-where I went there was a scene I had to photo-graph with my phone it was so breath-taking and on a glorious Summer day, unforgettable!

The pace of life relaxed me immediately and my best friend and I sat on a bench by the crystal-clear river that runs through Bourton-on-the-water watching little toddlers trying to walk with parents standing by, dogs excited and running in the water, children wading in-to the river to keep cool, loving couples reclining on each-other on the grass beside the gently flowing river and old couples walking slowly along holding hands.

There is a very international and diverse group of people from all over the world enjoying this perfect Summer day in a perfect English oldy-worldly town with 18th century stone buildings lining the Main Street and flowers bursting with vibrant colour every-where you look and people relaxing in alfresco bars and restaurants every-one was relaxed, happy and it seemed that the stresses of modern-day life did not exist here at all.

For me, Bourton-on-the-water is the 'beating heart' of the Cotswolds and essential to visit if you love quintessentially beautiful English villages but the whole of the Cotswolds is beckoning too.

The staff at the Chester House Hotel were wonderful and made Suzanne and I feel so welcome and our room met every criteria for us both living with chronic health conditions.

The Hotel has an ambience of friendliness, homeliness and comfort about it which we enjoyed so much and the food in the restaurant was of the highest standards and very delicious.

We loved relaxing in the garden after a day out and every single thing about the entire experience at the Hotel was 'perfect'; so-much-so that it was one of the best holidays I have ever had.

Suzanne and I are determined to come back in 2027 but I have to save-up for that. We love the Cotswolds and there is so much more to do and see beyond Bourton-on-the-water so we will do that next time.

The service The Chester House Hotel provided to us was impeccable and I am deeply grateful to all the staff for making our...

This hotel has the usual attitude of a establishment in a busy, tourist area, they dont need to try, once the weather improves they will be fully booked. The staff are friendly. Our room was well appointed with a large bed which was comfortable and we slept well. However, both the rooms our party stayed in did not have a bath as stated on the website. The dietary requirements entered on the guest information form we had to complete was not passed to the breakfast staff and someone had to dash out to the shops to purchase the necessary food. The hotel had no heating on our first night and first day (and was not much warmer after that) and we spent the first evening and breakfast wrapped in coats and blankets. We did not receive an explanation or recompense for this lack as essential service. Our room had a quaint antique phone in the room which you soon realise is a necessity as there is no signal or WiFi in the bedrooms. The television had no signal either. Once the bar area is locked up there are only 2 sets of chairs/settee to sit on for the evening (which didn't seem many for when the hotel is full). All staff leave at this point and there is no night porter. It did then feel as though the guests were on their own. In summary, as we were visiting Bourton on the Water for a relaxing weekend away the hotel was a vital ingredient to this and unfortunately the weekend was marred by the lack consideration to its guests. In response to the reply from the hotel: Blimey! I am really surprised you are happy to make such a reply public. Just sums up your attitude to your customers. We all spoke to various members of staff over the weekend about the heating but no explanation was forth coming (I should also point out that there was no heating in the bedrooms, apart from an electric heater, until Saturday night). If we were talking to the wrong members of staff then management should have been around to explain the situation. You only needed to talk to us or buy us a drink or something to show some care then maybe our reviews would have...

Everything about this place is excellent. The staff, the decor, the atmosphere, the food....etc etcThe receptionist on arrival was very friendly and welcoming and went and checked if our room was ready and let us check in very early. A lot of other places would just say "check in is at 3pm"This was a surpirse anniversary trip for me and my wife and with 2 kids now we very rarely get to go away for an hour never mind 2 nights..!! With this is mind trips like this need to be right and accommodation is everything as it's your base for your trip. Chester House Hotel delivered the goods and we had an amazing room (14) there was the added little touch of a message on the bed and some champagne truffles. (Small things really matter)The food here is excellent. We only had the breakfast both days and opted for different options. The full English and the veg option were both very very good. The produce is all locally sourced and I think it's probably the best hotel breakfast I can remember. The sausage was out of this world and the eggs are the brightest orange I've ever seen. These are called Billy's eggs and I don't know what he feeds them, but wow!!!The staff here are very very friendly. Everyone we met at Chester from the cleaner to the manager was very friendly and welcoming. You've got a good team of staff at your hotel. It can only take one to upset the apple cart. Our favourite staff when we stayed was there was the girl behind the bar at night with the long blonde crimped hair and the redhead girl at breakfast. Both were extremely friendly, service with a smile, polite and chatty. The location of the Chester is excellent. We could actually see the world go by from our room as you are literally 100 meters from the river. The car park is a mega bonus as parking is at a premium in Bourton on the water.Thankyou for a lovely stay. We thoroughly enjoyed it and we will return as and when we get the chance. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere...
