Communication with the property was fine before arriving. I used the phone number on the website and spoke to a polite man who confirmed that if we were booking two or more nights we could arrive at 2pm and have a free cream tea. He directed me back to the website to book and pay which I did with no issues.
On arrival there is no one to meet you but the keys are set out for you which again is fine…until there’s a problem!! I’d ticked the box (on booking) to ask for the sofa bed to be made up as we had booked the family room (no twins available) but when it wasn’t I had to message and was told linen was in the bedroom cupboard (as they’d seen it was just a booking for two people). There was a duvet but no bottom sheet and I got no further reply to my message stating this.
So..sleep wasn’t as good as it should have been as we had to fashion a divide with pillows taking up room. Breakfast was super…no complaints whatsoever there. Cream tea never happened as the info in the room states you have to have booked it by 9am on the day you would like it and we would have liked it on our first day before exploring Bourton. If you did order it for a subsequent day you had to make sure you were back for 2pm to have it. However…we didn’t book purely for a cream tea so we didn’t stress over this and let it go.
The room itself is lovely and roomy (room 5, the family room) and it was nice to have a sofa to sit on. We didn’t come to watch telly but did try it during an hour we had spare…it’s in a position to only watch from the sofa (not the bed) and we couldn’t get it to change channel from 5+1. There were no instructions so we gave up. The carpet by the shower (do people have carpets in bathrooms??) was filthy (see photo) but the shower seemed clean. There was a mini fridge in the room which was very useful and plenty of storage in the form of a chest of drawers. The curtains are lined but could do with some blackout lining (or blind) as the early daylight did wake us. We (along with at least one other couple we met on arrival) would have liked to have had some human experience from the owners but if you aren’t bothered about that (more an issue when things aren’t right maybe) and don’t mind a bit of grubbiness…then it’s fine. I’ve previously stayed at two other B & B’s in Bourton (both in the last two years) and whilst Chestnuts is definitely in a good central position, it wouldn’t be my place of choice for rooms. Interestingly on the morning we were checking out, I received a text telling me how to check in and that I was entitled to a cream tea (not how to access it though!!). I hope the owners find my comments constructive, as they are...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 nights in the Chestnut B&B in Bourton on the Water for a family birthday. To be honest we were surprised at with initial instructions about parking & checking as seemed rigid!|The pictures when booking on Booking.Com include the Sun Dial B&B next door so be aware the Chestnut is a B&B above shops & next door. The staff are friendly & welcoming but it’s tired & in need of some TLC! Our room was number 12 quite small. Curtains hanging down & difficult to draw at night. Next morning had a shower & overflowed due to trap being blocked with hairs! The breakfast is pre booked and our time slot was 9.30am. As there were 7 in the party. Had to ask for glasses for fruit juice & no direction given from staff about the process? The breakfast was lukewarm although nice produce. You self serve with toast & tea & Coffee. Second morning put a note on pre order to have a hot breakfast. Unfortunately it was same as first morning Luke warm! Asked to reheat & seemed surprised at request. 2 breakfasts returned. No coffee available & had to ask for the coffee?|In a nutshell lots of details need attention. A lovely location but neglected. Also no TV services in one of the rooms unless you have access to streaming etc!! |Overall we enjoyed the location but would not return. Limited parking only 6 spaces available but not enough for accommodation. Prices charged I would...
Read moreNice hotel in the centre of a lovely village. Could have been a great stay but a few things made the stay a little frustrating.
Good things Great location, limited parking but good if you can get one, but not too far a walk to other parking spots. Staff encountered were nice and friendly Breakfast was good and had a pre booking system for time. Room was large with plenty of space. Seemed clean and tidy. Bed was very comfy.
Could be better. Bathroom was cold, dark with no ventilation. Really poor shower and water pressure which was almost impossible to wash yourself properly. Spoke to someone who said they'd speak to a plumber but nothing happened during our stay. Almost went for a wash in the river. Email correspondence- lots of emails before the trip, trying to get you to pay for an early check in or trips with partners which was annoying after the 10th email. Then nothing after check in when we had a problem. No one is around after certain times but they leave you a number to call.
Could be a great place to stay. Frequent visitor of Bourton but think ill try somewhere different until i return and id make sure its not the same room in advance (room 10). I also left feedbsck with the link which was sent to me. It said based on my responses somebody may be in touch.. Didnt hear anything back. Would have been 5* if the bathroom wasn't so...
