Not worth for family with small children out of season. No car parking, shop closed, toilets closed. Fair enough, it doesn't open until May. Then going for a walk: iron age house replica closed (we didn't expect to be able to go in it but you can only look from afar through a locked fence). Maybe a picnic by the lake as we've seen photos of a lake and water with stepping stones? Eh, no. The lake is private property with a fenced off path alongside it, you cant sit anywhere or get anywhere close to the lake, it was like walking in a prison alley. And where are the stepping stones? There were also two 10ft wide gates with stepover sections for pedestrians. The alternative was to fully open them which I struggled with. These obstacles were not shown on the notice board map which was a great shame as it is a lovely site, but not for the less mobile. Hopefully just teething problems after recently reopening, but obviously in need of some proper...
Read moreOne of the most picturesque and unique nature reserves that blends the historical aspects of the site well with the naturals aspects. The site itself is not huge but there are some lovely walks around it with some informative information boards detailing both the historical and natural elements. There is a cafe on site offering a good menu of refreshments and also small selection of gifts, which overall is excellent. The staff are helpful and friendly and the discovery barn offers a good insight into the historical and natural parts of the site. Overall a good place and somewhere to escape to from the vibrant centre of...
