If you have £200 a night to spend on a stay in Bourton then DO NOT give it to the proprietor of the Old Bank Rooms. There are other beautiful places to stay, give your money to those businesses who deserve it. Heres why... There are reviews that say the rooms don't smell of the chip shop, well ours did. The whole building does and the air fresheners and reed diffusers throughout it are evidence of that. If you don't think you can bear smelling of beef dripping then don't go. Our bed was comfortable but the quilt was worn and absolutely bare of any filling except round the edges and at the bottom. There was hair on my pillow, food crumbs and an old plaster. I think they had got there during the making up of the bed by housekeeping when they picked the pillow up off of the grubby carpet. The rest of the sheets were clean. The towels are old, dingy and rough, as are the robes. At home they would be used for the pets instead. The furniture is cheap, the rooms are bare and more like student digs, chipped paint, scuffed walls and to be honest a baffling choice of 'where on earth were they going with this??' No decor isn't a top priority but remember..£200 per night, no finishing touches, an ironing board propped up in the corner of the room, 3 random chipped vases on the stained mantle and enough spotlights in the ceiling to burn your retinas and ensure you can be seen from space. The tea and coffee station was a wonky cabinet that needed a shim, 2 half open cans of coffee that previous guests had already used, and an open foil pack of tea bags that again was pre used and stained tea spoons. The little caravan fridge is on the floor with a cheap fan balanced on it. Remember...£200 a night. The bathroom has beautiful fittings, a roll top bath by the window, I can't tell you how comfortable it was because it was so caked in soap scum I gave it a wide berth and a shower that was hot, had good pressure and was clean (luckily) there were 2 sinks, one had a plug that didn't work the other had no plug at all, just an open plug hole where it had been removed. There was one cheap mirror on the wall, and one tiny shelf to share between the two sinks. So nowhere to put your toiletries. It's almost like they spent all their money on a posh bath so couldn't stretch to a mirror and cabinetry for each sink. The soaps provided were Penhaligons but next to the bath it was broken and there were drip stains all down the wall. Overall, we were not only disappointed but dismayed that the proprietors get away with this substandard level of accommodation. Also, the walk from the paying car park is not 2 minutes and if youre pulling a suitcase the pavement is bumpy some of the way. This was a stay for my birthday, we had a lovely time because we went out, the breakfasts I should mention were outstanding, albeit not hot enough. So all in all absolutely not worth the money, a wonderful location right on the high street doesn't mean you can slack on everything else. I don't see a response to reviews anywhere from the owners of this place, I imagine they're too busy counting...
Read moreAs we couldn't afford a holiday this year we treated ourselves to this luxury one night away instead. We stayed in Sterling, which had many luxury touches, wonderful views, a gorgeous bed and pillows and a good sized tv oppositethe bed. The breakfast was perfect! |BUT sadly within 5 mins of arriving we had been very disappointed. As I sat down I noticed the tables were in a very bad state. The mirror was badly damaged on the bottom and side. The hanging rail had 2 out of shape hangers next to ( grey ) thin tired out white toweling robes. The bathroom had yellow urine stains on the left skirting board, acculimated dirt in all corners, mucky bath soap dispensers that need a good clean on top, and a hot tap that moves very loosely, with dirt under, that could be scrubbed away. When I went to have a bath I pulled down the blind to discover a huge stain ( an exploded champagne bottle? ) all over the blind and as I went to fill the bath I just couldn't as there was ingrained dirt or damage to the whole bottom surface. Just awful. ( not clearly seen in the daylight ) |The WORST was I was in desperate need of an afternoon nap, and what we thought was a car outside with loud music and their window down, was in fact the music coming from underneath our room..boom boom boom etc! We had no idea that a thriving fish and chips shop and reastaurant was below us and open still 9.30! This was not on the accomodation description. I had assumed there was a small chip shed cafe on the side! So we had to go out in the pouring rain instead when we just needed to sleep! The lovely cleaners did pop down and ask for the music or radio to be turned down but to no avail. The cleaners were very obliging and helpful. There was a silent fridge with fresh milk and bottled water but sadly the coffee granules do not suit the filter provided so cannot be properly cleaned as they block. |The windows are single glazed so you do hear all the noise of the people on the pavements cars, and queueing for the chip shop. |A gorgeous village and the accomodaion could be again too if the owner/ manager did regular inspections.! The paintwork on all the landing skirting boards and woodwork needs redoing too! |Such a shame.I resent paying the same as someone who stayed there when it was...
