I have been going to Taj for 3 years, with my two little ones and my partner. Their food is always delicious. The people who work there are kind, traditional, and very sweet to my kids. They even give my kids high fives, and sometimes even give them some extra mango lassi. At most restaurants, you don't experience the staff being kind to one's children. They have been like this since the beginning, and I think very highly of this restaurant and the staff. I think that the reviews that state that the people who work here are rude, do not understand traditional Indian culture. I have worked for a couple from India, and they remind me a lot of the staff here. I have never witnessed any interactions during my many visits that seemed rude to me. I actually do not like eating out, but I love eating here as a special treat. The parking in Ashland is somewhat scarce, but it doesn't have anything to do with the restaurant. People will experience that at most places in Ashland. I usually only have to drive around for a few minutes to find a spot, as people are coming and...
Read moreLet's see...this was the original Rogue Brewery, then the Siskiyou, then Jefferson, then Siskiyou again, then Caldera and now Taj. I'd suggest going here for the Ashland history alone! But, more awaits. Right on Ashland Creek with a large outside deck, great pub food & brew, great service, great prices, roomy, parking, 2 minute slow walk from the Plaza and you're there. The place was virtually creamed out in a couple floods and there have been hard times, yet a version has survived. When Pat Couchman left, many thought it would die out, but it hasn't and the new owners have done a fabulous job. If you are visiting, I wouldn't miss checking this out any season. There is a perfect 'vibe' or 'experience' or 'local thing' you are looking for as a tourist and this place has it. Kid and somewhat doggy friendly...
Read moreFood is great. Service good. Everything is great, except they use slave labor. They have literally had an actual slave (ahem, I mean a vulnerable and powerless person who lives here without legal rights) there for years who was working without ANY days off, even once a month. Someone who can't even visit their parents without dangerously risking their ability to work here and support the family. Only recently, after years of NO DAYS OFF, they started giving him one day off per week. I will take down or alter the review when the owners of the restaurant have persuaded me that they have fixed the situation, to include at least two consecutive days off per week, and pay (including overtime) comparable to a comparably skilled American worker with comparable...
