You know those typical hostels you find in Europe where you are sleeping 14 to a room and have to share a bathroom with everyone else in the building? Well, that’s not this place. The Bivvi is perhaps the nicest ‘hostel’ you will ever stay in.
Located just to the north of the main drag of downtown Breck, the Bivvi is situated in the perfect location for those who want to be near all the action without breaking the bank. It’s just a quick walk to all the restaurant and the free ride bus picks up just a couple hundred feet in front of the hostel. Now, keep in mind, this is not your average hostel. It’s a converted B&B so the bathrooms are in the rooms and there are multiple options for a traditional hotel room setup. For the hostel side of things, you can chose a 4 person or 6 person setup – all mixed gender. That being said, it’s a good crowd so don’t the gender thing prohibit you from staying at The Bivvi.
The front desk doubles as the bar so there is a constant flux of friends venturing in the common area. The staff is so rad that you really secretly wish they could be your friends. Major shout out to CJ, Brian, and Balasz – all three of them were insanely awesome and had a baseline stoke level that is so high it makes me envy their lives.
The hostel is super clean and security is nice and tight with keycards needed for the front and back doors anytime after 10pm. They have an equipment room that would make your mom jealous – so organized and way too convenient for your post-riding sweaty feet. Boot dryers, cubbies, and ski/snowboard racks make this the most clutch equipment room I have ever seen.
Each bunk has it’s own lantern that helps guide you to where you will lay your head that evening. The beds are super comfy but in the spirit of honesty… the pillows could use some work. But I am super picky. Sheets and towels are all provided and they even have their own line of shampoo and conditioner. They fancy, huh? Dang straight they are – but my wallet fancy’s them more than my body. You can’t beat the value of the Bivvi, especially if you are travelling solo and really just want some fresh pow to the face. They know what’s important so they start your day off right with a free HOT breakfast served daily from 7-9am.
Now, mix all the fine accommodation aspects with the super rad mentality of everyone else crashing there – we are saying 100% YES PLEASE to this vibe ALL THE TIME. I met some seriously amazing individuals, all of whom had a like-minded head on their shoulders. It was simple… we were there to ride pow and make some great memories in...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I’s experience was unpleasant to say the least. In our first hours in Breckenridge, it was definitely memorable for the worst experience, if I could give them 0 stars I would. We made a reservation on December 16 for 3 nights. When we first arrived, we were not welcomed by the front desk lady. We were met with very short responses and to come back at 4pm for the bed. Once we came back, we were excited to get to the room. However, we were not able to share a bed in their shared dorm. After learning from 'Sam', she replied with “Do you not know what a Hostel is?” My boyfriend and I were at a loss for words. Not only were we met with animosity but on top of that Sam did not show any consideration. I asked if there were any available beds as they do offer walk-ins. After finding out there were no extra beds, we wanted a refund to find a different place for the night, since we were not going to stay at different hotels for 3 nights. Sam said that the manager had strict rules against refunds but would try to contact the manager. Instead of finding reassurance with Sam, a party of 3 behind us offered their bed because someone could not make the reservation. Sam not only showed more consideration towards this party, but also gave them a full refund for the person that did not show right in front of us. I asked her to have the manager call me directly to which she replied he's going to tell you the same thing but I'll try. There was no more that could be done at that point because her attitude was atrocious and our beds would not be in the same room. We took our business elsewhere. I told her to give us a call and it has been over a week and I have not received any call from the Bivvi Hostel or the manager. If it is your first time in Breckenridge, DO NOT stay at the Bivvi Hostel, it does not have a friendly or welcoming environment like most other hostels.
UPDATE: Received partial refund but still no contact from either the manager or the hostel. Still awaiting to hear...
Read moreI LOVEDDDD staying here at The Bivvi y'all. Its the coolest location, you get an amazing view, you can watch the sunset from the hot tub, you can sit by the fire outside, or inside while you warm up in the mornings or evenings with your coffee and free breakfast and super interesting conversations with the people and travelers around you. It's also a cool place to work from during the day, very comfy like home and yet for a fraction of the price of staying other places. I stayed in a King room and a 6 person room while I was there and really loved things about both. The balconies on the rooms have good views, and while it was an adjustment to sleep in a room with 5 other guests, it was cool to see how much people are kind and respectful of one another, and how they really work together to respect the space of themselves and other people. I enjoyed by day 2 having so little extra to deal with and distract from why I came to Breckenridge in the first place, which was to mingle, meet new people, come home to being me, and get outside and back to exploring. I LOVED this place, nicest hostel I've seen by far (comparing to Europe), and will definitely be back.
Staff was super friendly and helpful as well. Michelle who checked me in was super nice, and Russ was awesome, really went the extra mile to even help me find a Rufus du Sol concert ticket, and you can tell really loves to help and be around people.
Great stay, thank you, Bivvi! You've inspired me to open a place like this of my own someday very soon! Lots of love beautiful humans. Cheers to your travels...
