I really enjoyed being there, it was SO nice. However the only thing that was AWEFUL was the valet service. If you’re going to pay $30 per day, why would you have the worst valet service. The night I arrived, the valet guy was NO where to be found... I had to ask the security guard (who was sitting on the couch on his phone) if he has seen the valet guy and turns out the valet guy was around the corner hidden hanging out on a chair with his feet up, on FaceTime, headphones in... and when I asked if he was the valet guy, he remained in the same position and just pulled one ear plug out to ask “huh?” Like as if he was a teenager I was bothering to do a chore. We ended up having to park at another garage because the hotels parking was full... another thing that was frustrating was when we would want to leave, there would be a long line of people waiting in their cars because the valet guy was taking forever inside hanging out and had the guests car just parked in the drive up area. Again... the stay there was nice but valet service was the absolute worst. Another thing... any time we ordered towels to our room, they’d send the security guards to drop it off... I’ve stayed in many hotels and they always had a second staff member on hand to deliver anything a guest would need. In this case it seems as though the staff is short and they are sending the only protective service we guests have to deliver something to a room instead of having him out front. I also noticed the guards were never out doing their jobs, almost every time I seen them, they were sitting on the couch on their phones... I don’t care what time it is... you have a job so it doesn’t matter that you’re bored... you are being paid to do your job so get off the phone and the couch and guard!! Same goes for valet service! There was other hotels I had seen while being downtown and I noticed the guards stood right there in front watching out... at ours... the guards were “chillin.” I do want to say thank you to the hotel for having the pack n play on hand for us guests available, that was a new thing to me as I have never heard of a hotel having one for guests before but I was incredibly grateful, especially since our room had hardwood floors. Such A much safer option! The room was SO nice, we really enjoyed the front desk service people as well as the cleaning people... they both did AWESOME!!! Really nice hotel... just replace your valet and security staff with some...
Read moreAll the staff were great. They greet you every time you walk by the front. The food was well prepared. The room was cleaned well. Really the staff is the only reason I’m not giving one star.
The hotel itself is pretty bad though. I’m Marriott Gold and this is the worst Marriott I’ve stayed in. The biggest issue for me is there is a strong smell of roach poison in the air. As soon as you get off the elevator it smacks you. The smell is not as bad in the rooms but it’s still present. If you are pregnant or have breathing issues I definitely think it’s a dangerous amount. It activated my asthma when I haven’t had it in years. I held my breath to walk through the hall. I read the response of the hotel trying to say it’s cleaning products and there is absolutely no way that is the smell. It literally smells like raid. VOCs from chemicals are dangerous and Marriott needs to take this more seriously. They can cause birth defects in pregnant women and from the comments they have known about the problem for a long time now.
The 7th floor looks abandoned. It’s crazy because you wouldn’t expect it from how nice the lobby is. It’s like a shock when you get off the elevator. It’s really dark and not in a cool moody way. I felt like I was in an apocalyptic movie and any second a zombie would pop out.
The rooms do look neat like downtown industrial but the floors are so loud to walk on. I definitely don’t recommend staying with anyone that gets up in the middle of the night. The bed was sunken in and didn’t have a mattress topper like most Marriotts do. The main reason I choose Marriott is because consistency of the beds but I ended up with a pinched nerve in my back from the bed. I agree with the lack of mirrors. I couldn’t even make sure I looked ok before heading to a work event. The lighting is bad so it’s hard to check makeup either. I had to use my phone by the window. The tv lags and takes forever to load Netflix if it works at all.
The area itself has a lot of unhoused. It’s pretty typical for downtown areas and probably fine for guys but I kept getting hit on and approached as a woman. I ended up not feeling comfortable once it got too late in the day. Definitely wouldn’t walk at night. It is close to the conference center but there are no food options around close by. The wingstop isn’t even a restaurant, it can only be ordered from food...
Read moreLoved our stay here. We came for a conference, but the venue itself was full, so I had to find a place nearby, and I found this one.
Staff was friendly, rooms were clean. Picture industrial chic. If you like that, you’ll probably enjoy your stay. I had polished concrete floors, which I love; the others had hardwood. The ceilings were also concrete, and there was raw brick surrounding tall windows with a nice view.
Maybe because of the thickness of the concrete walls, the room was very quiet. It also stayed cool in the heat. I travel with a Roku, but the others were delighted to find smart TVs, where they could sign into their own streaming services. There is a full kitchen—nice to have for a long stay, although I just used the fridge and a coffee mug. There is a breakfast every morning, with what you would expect (toast, fruit, muffins, waffles cereal) plus eggs and sausage or bacon.
More things I liked about the room: nice view of the downtown). And as a nerdy thing, there was indirect lighting (some hotels have lights that are ON of off.
I saw some reviews say the neighborhood was not great. That wasn’t our experience, really. Every morning, we walked to the conference venue, and then walked back in the evening. We found the most pleasant walk was to head west from the hotel, and then turn north by the library. Lots of places to eat along the way. Lots of folks walking to work (presumably), or walking dogs. Going east is not as nice a walk (1 star off of the location rating with that in mind), but the Farmers Market is not too far that way, and is worth a stop. If you keep heading west from the hotel (the other way from the Farmers Market), you come to a series of parks with sculptures. If you’re up for a longer walk, the JFK memorial is also in walking distance. Of course, we were there in May. It was hot for us, but July or August might be too too hot to enjoy walking .
I travel a bit for work, usually more locally to me in the Mid Atlantic. Wish my regular hotel...
