My husband and I have been going to the location about 2 times a month since July. We have really enjoyed the food and for the most part the service has been really good. We decided to take our adult children to dinner on Saturday and of course went to our new favorite spot. BUT this visit was not what we were used to, the server was great I do not remember her name, but the food was not at all the quality that we usually get from them. We started with the choriqueso dig that is amazing, but it came out cold and hardly any potatoes to dip in the dip so we ordered more which was $6 more. My youngest son ordered a District tap burger medium well no pickle w/fires there was pickle on the burger and the fries were cold and a little limp. My oldest ordered the Mahi Mahi that can in a bag with rice and he really enjoyed his. My husband ordered the rib eye steak well done with mashed potatoes and fruit. The steak was not well done it was dripping in blood and was not seasoned at all it had not flavor there was so much blood/juices on the plate that it turned the mashed potatoes into a mess. I ordered the Cajun rib eye well done with mashed potatoes and broccoli, mine was the worst my steak was burnt black on one side and barely cooked on the other and bloody. I let the server know she took mine back and my husband just kept his and ate it because he was so hungry. My family had eaten all of their dinner and I still had not received my steak back so I asked to cancel it. The manager took it off my check and still gave me the food to take home, but I would like to say even the replaced steak was not good it had zero flavor and was still red in the middle. I am hoping this was just a one time thing and that when we go back that we will get the quality of food we have always received. Maybe it was just...
Read moreLet me lead with the fact that I work downtown and have been anticipating this opening for almost half a year, since it was announced. There's plenty of bars and restaurants in the area, but after all the glowing reviews I've heard from people regarding the north side location, you could say I was eager.
Since open last week, I've been three times. All 3 occasions, I ordered the mac and cheese bites because they are absolutely delicious. A little heavy on the panko breading but unless you're low carb, who cares about a little extra bread. Especially when they're the size of your fist and filled with zesty, cheesy shells and drizzled with white queso. So bomb.
I recently got the bottle cap burger with a beyond patty and it was delicious. This is the first time I've tried an imitation meat patty from restaurant and it was pretty dang passable. The science behind Beyond Meat is a whole 'notha conversation, but TDT does it justice.
As far as service goes, I'd go as far as to say 10/10. Jessi and Kari were my servers when I dined in at tables and both times they were so, so awesome. Kari is so quick to make sure you have everything you need and Jessi was super cool and accommodating when my group really needed it. She was suuuper nice from start to finish. Doug was my bartender when I sat at the bar and he was more than knowledgeable about spirits and local brews. He was the one who steered me towards the mac bites, and honestly it was probably for the worst because theres no way I'm not eating those at least once a week now.
If you don't know anything about the company, TDT is an awesome stop. It seems like the staff really enjoys working there and the food hasnt let me down yet. Drink specials are on trend with downtown variety/prices and beer selection is above...
Read moreOur team recently visited The District Tap in Indianapolis S Meridian Street for a team dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was highly disappointing due to the management and staff behavior.
We arrived at 6 p.m. with 6 people and requested seating for our 16-member team dinner. The receptionist refused to seat us, insisting that at least 50% of the group must be present before a table could be provided.
We raised the concern with the restaurant manager, hoping for a reasonable solution, but his response mirrored the receptionist’s—lacking empathy, flexibility, and customer care.
After a 30-minute wait, 4 more colleagues joined us. At that point, instead of accommodating all 10 of us at a table for 16 (which they eventually did), management seated us at a table that only fit 10 people and asked the rest of the team to sit separately at another table. This defeated the very purpose of our team dinner together.
The inconsistency was frustrating—if they were going to split us anyway, the initial 6 of us could have been seated earlier rather than made to wait unnecessarily.
To add to the poor experience, the server’s behavior was rude. When we requested items, he remarked, “I have only two hands to serve you guys,” which felt unprofessional and dismissive.
Overall, this experience reflected a top-down culture of indifference from management to staff. For a restaurant positioned as a team-friendly gathering place, such treatment is unacceptable. We left with the strong decision that we will not consider The District Tap for any future...
