Me and my Girlfriend drove over 2 Hours to get to this Comedy Club to see Steve Byrne on July 12th at 8, the show was going well up until the server came up to our table and asked if we wanted anything to drink, I was only going to ask for a glass of water, and then the server begin to insist on getting 2 Fiji Waters. I told her I only wanted 1 and then she threatened to call security and have me removed??? Like what? What did I do? I was so confused and shocked! I therefore told her ok 2 is fine, just so I wouldn’t get kicked out. She then brought the waters and aggressively slammed them on our table. When she was coming around to charge people for food and drinks, I told her, I never wanted the Fiji Waters to begin with, she then said “You gotta pay for the 2 Waters or I’ll have security escort you out!” I cooperated, not wanting to escalate the situation and politely handed her my credit card, she swiped it and then when the tip option popped up, she rudely said “I already know you’re not gonna tip anyway!” And then proceeded to THROW my credit card on the table aggressively! I was completely SHOCKED! The first time she threatened to kick me out, the show was already ruined for me. I kept thinking about it for the rest of the night. That had to be by far the rudest thing someone has done to be in a while! I later found out (after the show) that according to the terms and conditions, you are REQUIRED to buy two items while inside the show. The problem is that we were NEVER told this until we found out AFTER the show. When they read the rules before the show, they should’ve told everyone that we are required to buy 2 Items. Problem was I didn’t know that, that’s why I was super confused when the waitress threatened to kick me out. She was extremely rude and I still can’t believe I was treated that way! I have no problem with buying the 2 items if it’s required, but I wish I was told about it! I will never be coming back to Helium Comedy...
Read moreI have now been to the Helium Comedy Club in downtown Indy more than a half-dozen times. I appreciate it's efforts to bring named comedy talent to our town. It's location on a prominent intersection makes it easy to locate and it is, in my mind, much more accessible than some other comedy clubs. It's is fairly new and so it does not show the wear and tear many of the "more established" clubs do- and that's a good thing. Seating can be tight, but as comfortable as one can reasonably expect. It has the typical two-item minimum I've come to expect from such places. Food is "over-priced" (averaging $10 per item) and it is mostly things that can be microwaved or thrown in a toaster oven easily. But even so, a great night of laughter helps ease that financial sting and it certainly no worse than a bucket of popcorn at a typical movie theater. I am not a "drinker," so I can't speak to drink prices beyond soda (around $4 for a 12 oz serving.). The wait staff for each of my visits has been friendly without being obtrusive or absent. Add to all this that those who sign up for emails get the occasional gem of a discount (I just received 50% off as part of a flash sale) and the value can really shine. Pre-Covid one could expect to see talent in the lobby post-show to sell merchandise and meet fans. (Occasionally this is only available with a VIP pass, but most of the acts I've seen were out there for free). My only major complaint is the ticketing system. Tickets are ALWAYS Will-Call and there is a Ticketmaster-like surcharge that cannot be avoided. If you can get past that, its likely you're in for...
Read moreI love, love Helium!! I attend shows very often. It's a great thing to see, Nationally known acts at a pretty decent fair price. After my first show, I've was hooked. I actually started attending when they were Morty's on 96th Street. The upgrade has been really good, and I love the space. It's small and very intimate. I hate the two item minimum because some people just want to come and enjoy the show without being pressured about the two items. Some people just don't want it, but I understand it may be to support the remaining costs. Either way, I'm going to keep coming, lol🤦🏿♀️! I'm going to stick beside them. That is kind of what leads me to leave a four star review, I wish I could leave like a 4.9 so that it would be much closer to 5! But being made to order two items can be overwhelming. Even though you all offer food and drinks, some people like to frequent places downtown prior to the show for possibly something more appealing to eat and to begin a possible date night or whatever. The drinks are fine, but the food could be way better than what it is!! It's not nasty, but it's typical bar food at a little higher price point than usual. I believe it's time for an upgrade on the menu, especially when you have the kitchen staff to produce more quality and creative meals and / or snacks. We the people, definitely need a bone in chicken option. Bone in chicken should always be an option. I was lucky enough to have some Marlon wings the last night of his show and whew they were GREAT!! I mean, who doesn't love bone in chicken. Anyways, cheers...
