I would like to think that my poor experience here yesterday was due to the large crowds of people with Jim Thorpe’s fall fest. Having said that, I’m fairly confident that their lack of preparedness was poor leadership by whoever runs this place. It took WAY too long to get our order. We got in line, which was long, but the entire town was crowded and it was warm so we figured why wouldn’t the ice cream line be long? It took 20 minutes to get to put in the order. Once the order was put in, it took another 30 minutes for our 2 items to be served up (an arctic freeze and a 2 dip bowl). The Dairy Queen down the street from me would have a comparable order ready within seconds. What’s worse is when our orders FINALLY came out (which we were about to ditch due to our train leaving soon), they were both melted! The arctic freeze was ice cream soup and the 2 dips were floating in what was already melted.
The entire town of Jim Thorpe just isn’t built for the amount of people that were present yesterday. All the shops were crowded, the traffic looked like a nightmare, and wait times for all restaurants were over 45 minutes. I don’t blame Wood’s for the over-saturation of people and customers, but I absolutely DO blame them for their lack in preparedness, poor systems, and inferior quality of product. My wife and I will try them again in the future when the crowds aren’t as bad, that may adjust our rating. But until then, if you’re there on a busy day, be sure to allot yourself at least an hour to the Woods experience and don’t expect to be wowed with...
Read moreThe ice cream was great and the workers were kind but the prices on the menu do not match the prices of what they charge and I thought I was only buying two hand dipped Sundays for $6.10 and then tax, not nine dollars a Sunday. I ended up spending almost $20 on what I thought was only gonna be around 13. The owners should have put more thought into their sign this year, and I was also told by the kind people that they have not been working here long, not even more than a week. They’re the only two there and the owners are nowhere to be seen training them. They did not know how to respond to my questions. Maybe if the owners were there and present, they would’ve been able to answer why my hand dipped Sunday was 1.5x the amount of what was shown on the board. I’m giving three stars because the ice cream was good and the workers were nice but I’m taking two stars off due to the owners. And the lack of training they provided. They were so new they were having trouble with how to work the square register. Somebody should have been behind them, showing them what to do. they were very kind and polite and handled the situation the best they could. I understood it was not their fault and I paid and tipped, but I hope this gets corrected in the future. Thank you...
Read moreLiterally clueless employees. Out of my group of 5, 3 came out wrong, and were also corrected wrong. I was abruptly told that “they had a lot of orders!” Before I explained that they didn’t have to remake my order, just simply put the cone on top. It seemed as if both interactions between us and the cashier, as well as the person bringing out the ice cream were not registering with them. Our group is always easy going and understanding, but at least act like you’re somewhat listening to customers. When placing our large order, we were not confident that it would be carried out correctly, based on the minimal signs of life given off by the cashier. Well, we were proven correct.
Everyone makes mistakes, I’d definitely go back considering the soft serve ice cream was great, but at least act like you are listening to the customers. Definitely worth going to, but they clearly are not ready for crowd of people wanting ice cream before the show at the opera...
