Overall pleasant stay. Just minor flaws/disappointments. 1st, you are sold that they have a “buffet style continental breakfast”. What was offered was barely able to be called breakfast. They offered one warmed egg option each morning (scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, or a small cheese omelette). It was one of those options per morning, not a choice or variety each day. That was the only warmed food, no meat/protein, waffles, gravy/biscuits. There were the standard toast, plain bagels, and muffins you could toast in the toaster oven. Two types of dry cereal, yogurt cups, and choice of drink (coffee, tea, OJ, apple juice, milk, water). That was it. For being right on the beach and not being a “cheap” hotel, the breakfast was VERY disappointing. Don’t sell it as a continental breakfast. Just say you have light breakfast options available.
Aesthetic of hotel was very pleasant and matched the retro feel of the Ocean Drive hotels. Hotel was kept very clean. Building is older, but it has been kept up well.
Our room was a King. Room is very basic/small, only 1 small painting on the wall. Standard furniture and fixtures. Furniture was worn on edges, but clean. Being on South Beach, I was worried about noise at night, but it wasn’t bad at all! We were on the 3rd floor, only heard minimal noise at night. No microwave in room. **Room came with 2 small beach chairs and daily beach towels. Lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas available for rent on the beach.
Staff was friendly. We had inquired about having a late checkout (we had a later flight) and one staff member said that that was an option and to just let them know the morning of checkout and we could pay for the late checkout. However, when we asked (a different person that morning) the morning we were leaving about leaving late, they said that was not an option. The most they could do would be a 1 hr delay. We made it work, but I wish the first employee would have been better informed and not got...

Our stay at the Avalon Hotel in Miami Beach was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the boutique hotel's charm and intimate atmosphere. The hotel is small and cozy, which made it feel like a hidden gem. We stayed on the third floor with stunning views of the ocean, and the room was spotless, equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
What truly stood out during our visit was the exceptional service. From check-in to daily housekeeping, the staff were nothing short of wonderful. Each interaction we had was pleasant and welcoming, and it was clear that the team takes great pride in providing a memorable guest experience.
The highlight of our trip was the incredible service at the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The food was consistently outstanding, but what truly made it special were the servers, who treated us like family. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed, and we shared many laughs with them throughout our stay.
A special mention to Marvin, whose warm and genuine personality added so much to our experience. He truly made our time at the hotel unforgettable. We also had the pleasure of meeting Baros, who was behind the bar on his first day. He quickly became a favorite, always bringing a smile to our faces and making us laugh every day. During our stay, Michael was also on staff for two nights, and his friendly conversations and overall kindness made our time even more enjoyable.
While there were many other fantastic staff members whose names we regret not remembering, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them for making our trip so memorable.
We will undoubtedly be returning to Avalon Hotel, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Miami Beach. Thank you to the entire Avalon team for your outstanding hospitality!

Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the Avalon for two nights prior to taking a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, and our only complaint is that we only spent two nights here! What a wonderful start to our trip! Both the hotel and South Beach are so atmospheric and the art deco styling is timeless. You are right in the heart of the historic South Beach area and just a few paces away from the lovely sandy beach and beautiful sea.
As this is an older hotel, the rooms are comfortable but not hugely spacious but come with everything you would want (including A/C which as a Brit abroad is an absolute must have!) The shower has great water pressure, there's a nice big TV with a good selection of channels, plus a couple of beach chairs included which we made use of. The complementary metal reusable water bottles were a nice touch and could be easily refilled at the water fountain just outside our room. We stayed in 205 which has a view directly over the sea that literally took our breath away when we first arrived (photo included).
The highlight of the hotel is the staff. Each and every person we interacted with was attentive, friendly and welcoming. Sonia provided us with a lovely greeting and smile every time we saw her and was knowledgeable about the area, Manny was excellent at serving us breakfast and lunch (I highly recommend the Capellini, which was absolutely delicious and tasted fresh), and Diego mixed us some fantastic maracuya cocktails which were the perfect accompaniment to sip on the terrace as we watched the world go by in the afternoon, with the lovely sea breeze keeping us cool.
If we are lucky enough to return to Miami one day, we will definitely stay at the Avalon and we can't recommend it...
