First negative review I’ve ever written in my middle aged life…. Not kidding. |Front desk person working 7/25 evening had a horrible attitude and was not accommodating. I asked about parking bc online it stated underground parking. She said no more spots are left, park across the street. I said my dad is disabled and his wheelchair had low battery. With an attitude-She said, ‘I said, there is no more parking and you can park across the street.’ Then I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights and I said I need the rooms close together bc of my kids and elderly father. She said the rooms are on different floors. I said that won’t work for my family, for safety reasons and fall risk concerns. She said,‘I’ll cancel your rooms, but you prepaid so you will still be billed.’ I said, well I guess I have to stay here, then she said, ‘well I already canceled your rooms!’ I stood there in shock… she said, ‘ well are you still interested?’ I said not if they’re on different floors. Then she acted like she was doing me a huge favor by calling to the parking garage to see if they had a handicap spot. They did have a handicap spot but she wasn’t able to get our rooms together. She refused to refund my reservation. Then I said well I will block my payment and she said and I’ll note that on your account. She refused to give her name or any supervisor on duty, she said she was the supervisor on duty. Then I booked a Fairfield (another Marriott hotel) by the Brewers stadium and it is wonderful here ! However when I called Marriott tonight to see about getting a Residence Inn refund, they said she put me down as a ‘no show’ and they said it’s a 5 d review process that the individual hotel has the discretion to issue or not!! Even though I rebooked another Marriott location. I wasn’t a ‘no show’… false documentation on her part. It really puts a dark cloud on a vacation when it’s undetermined if you’re going to have to pay $1800 for a 2 night stay that you can’t utilize due to safety concerns. If I could type ZERO stars I would. My dad is a military marine veteran, where is the respect for elderly veterans. I’ve stayed at numerous Marriotts, this is hands down the worst. Don’t waste...
Read moreThis hotel has really gone downhill. I used to bring in groups for events between 2007 and 2015, and always recommended the Residence Inn as the best place to stay based on location and amenities. I had family in from out of town last week during a heat wave, and with no AC, decided to treat them to 2 nights at the hotel. Booked a 1 bedroom suite, which was advertised as sleeping 4 . Room was tiny and cramped, so asked if we could be moved. The staff moved us to a handicap accessible room, which was huge with a great view, but sleeper sofa was broken/caved in. We could see crumbs and used q-tips before we even opened it up.we called down for clean sheets and reported the issue. We also realized that it would not sleep 2 people so had to order a roll away which we were charged $10 per night for. I would like to invite the Marriott staff to try and sleep on one of these. So uncomfortable that my sister had to use the couch cushions to make up a bed on the floor. The next morning we went down to breakfast. It was as great as I remembered but there are now at least 5 televisions blaring, all tuned to different stations. as good as the food was, the atmosphere was jarring and uncomfortable. Housekeeping arrived late in the afternoon and we were told that we should not have reported the dirty sheets to the front desk because she would get written up. We felt that this was not appropriate at all and told her we did not need her to clean the room, based on her attitude. The following morning, we were greeted to a large leaking hole in the hallway ceiling outside our door. In a nutshell, this felt like a cheap chain hotel, rather than the Marriott property I had enjoyed previously. Very disappointed, felt bad for my family, wished we had stayed elsewhere. I will say, aside from the housekeeper, the staff was always friendly and helpful, which kept our stay from...
Read moreWe stayed at the property for seven nights during a conference downtown. We generally stay at Marriott properties and especially like to stay at Residence Inn so we have the flexibility to fix our own meals.
First the positives: This property used to be a "Gimbles" department store. The building has great character. It doesn't feel like a typical Residence Inn. We loved our room. It was spacious and had high ceilings. The A/C worked great during hot summer days. Everything in the room (fridge, stovetop, dishwasher) worked great except the shower (see below). The fitness center was just down the hall and provided a great space to exercise. All the staff were interacted with were very friendly. The location is great as well (right on the Milwaukee River). We also liked that it was connected to the indoor walkway. That would be especially helpful in the winter.
Now for the challenges: We were asked when we arrived if we wanted the room "refreshed" (new towels and trash removed) every couple days. We said yes. After several days, we went to the front desk and said that our room hadn't been refreshed. We asked if it could be refreshed that day. They said yes but nothing happened that day. Then we asked again the next day and they said they would definitely get to it and it never happened. The next day we asked a third time. Our room was finally refreshed the day for before we left. I'm not sure what was wrong with their internal communication system to housekeeping staff. In addition, both elevators were non-functional during most our stay (waiting on parts). The hotel did adapt well and let guests use a service elevator. Finally, we had a hard time getting the shower in our room to hold a consistent temperature. The temperature would vary wildly from hot to cold. If these challenges were addressed, it would be a great...
