OVER PRICED, RUDE, and PREJUDICED. Granted, I don't mind paying for coffee, teas, and baked goods that are a little higher. I work right across the street so I'm in here often. Cut to the chase, I noticed when I'm with my white coworkers, the service, magically is so much better. Now i have never had any issues or slick remarks from any of the women. But the owner i think, and a heavy set guy, gives me crap all time. The micro-aggression towards me is very uncalled for. My very last visit, yesterday, I waited behind two people who were before me to get a bakery item. Mind you, I have not said a word to anyone. I didn't speak to no one or say anything under my breath. So after he's done with the lady in front of me he goes to the side and assist a lady who was eating and drinking inside. She looks at me and then says oh I was already here. But you already have your drink and you should be waiting in line behind me to pay. But I didn't say anything I just looked at her with a smirk like okay. Then the heavyset Guy starts talking shit about being the only one there. Now everybody's looking at me and mind you I still haven't said a word! I give him my order I have never seen someone aggressively grab a croissant toss it in the bag like he was angry. He didn't tell me the price he just held his hand out for my credit card, I gave it to him he swiped it gave me my card back press whatever on the tablet and walked away. Didn't give me a chance to look at my receipt asked me if I need a receipt or allow me to tip if I wanted to. Again I didn't say a word. I will no longer be visiting or bringing my...
Read moreCanary Coffee Bar had been on my must-vist wishlist for a couple years now and I finally had the chance of stopping in! The coffee shop is aesthetically pleasing. I got the peach cream drink which the menu price was listed as $7.50. When it came time to pay it was over $8.25 and then a tip was requested. Seeing as my sister was paying for my drink and it was already more then expected, I selected no tip. I was sitting at the bar seating with my friends and family and all of the other seating was full. They don't have a true cash register here and walk around the counter, meeting the customer where ever there is room and use an iPad for payment. Because it was crowded the customers were basically ordering right over me and there was no where else to sit. I had been waiting to order for several minutes and told the tall, brunette female barista that she can grab my order whenever she has the chance. Now this is the part that left a bad taste in my mouth - the customer that came after me ordered and the barista answered a question regarding tipping with, "yeah I only get paid with tips and nobody is really tipping," with a very snarky tone and it was while this transaction was taking place basically over my head. It seemed very passive aggressive. As a business how can you expect customers to tip on a very expensive beverage while only paying your baristas in tips? Also the drink was probably less than 12 ounces. Seeing as there are other nice coffee shops downtown, I will not be returning. Expensive, overstimulating, and the barista's attitude really rubbed me...
Read moreWe tried Canary Coffee bar for the first time and loved it - they have a traditional/standard coffee and tea menu as well as an extensive seasonal menu upon request. The barista was extremely helpful while we chose our drinks and food. We tried a savory scone-bacon, cheddar and jalapeño and it was absolutely delicious. I wish I could purchase bags of these scones. They also have a variety of muffins and brownies. I tried the almost ice cream drink - it is an espresso drink with cream, chocolate, caramel and malt powder. It was heavenly and lived up to its name, tasting like a malted milkshake. My partner and I agreed that we could drink 5 of them with no regrets. If you like mochas/chocolatey coffee drinks and are able to go while it’s on the seasonal menu that is the drink for you. My partner got a honey vanilla latte-it was wonderfully balanced-not too sweet so that you could still taste the coffee notes. Cute latte art of course. After our coffees we also wanted to purchase some coffee beans and the barista was extremely knowledgeable about the coffee they sold and was able to tell us what the beans would taste like when brewed, what his favorite style of brew was with the beans - absolutely amazing. The place is decorated very clean and modern - black leather chairs with gold legs, minimalistic design with hanging plants and floating shelves. You can sit at the bar on blue velvet stools and strike up a conversation with the baristas when it’s not busy. It’s very pretty and an overall great atmosphere. We will...
