Skip for a short review summary at the end. I am struggling to give this restaurant a rate. I am torn between 3 and 4 stars (It's Okay vs Liked It)
To start, the place is fancy. I liked it. But tbh, it's not as fancy as I would've hope. Considering what you pay here. It's not bad by any means but something is just off about the decor of this place that makes not "elegant". This is my personal opinion not a fact. It's definitely overpriced for the place you get. The place is clean and neat. Don't get me wrong. Again, it's good but it can be better. But this is a very small part of the experience. I think the physical location of this place takes away from the potential of providing a more elegant atmosphere. 👔👗I don't believe there is a strict dress code here. Saw people dressed in different sorts of clothes including jeans and sweats.
📍🅿️: Located in downtown, this spot serves as a good choice for business lunches as well as evening dates. There's street parking and it's metered until a certain point of the day. Parking can be a hassle on weekends considering that other businesses around exist. There's valet parking. This is a lively spot during weekends especially at night. The crowd in the surrounding block is mostly 30+ of age. The restrooms were very clean. The lighting is very faint and dark.
🥩: Food is good. We ordered a domestic wagyu filet and it was perfect. Very tender and in my own opinion absolutely worth the expensive price. We also got shrimp and it was good. The seared fish was good as well but it wasn't cooked to our satisfaction and we were never asked how we wanted it unlike the wagyu filet. We assumed it'll be cooked all the way or close but it wasn't. The seared fish was on the special items of the day. Lobster bisque was amazing. Must try. Roasted Bone Marrow was also good but unfortunately it is not serve with onion jam. It came with not enough slices of crunchy bread and sea salt and some kind of pickled slices of onions maybe? Not sure if it was pickled or what was that exactly. We've had better bone Marrow before. Truffle frities are very very thin and crispy. Don't expect normal French fries. Maybe try steak fries instead?
👤: The Service was professional and satisfactory. The host was very welcoming. We had a reservation. Our table was ready right away. We were seated in a matter of seconds and the server was present momentarily. Server was very professional. We were offered a choice between tap water or sprinkling water. Server was Not pushy. He explained everything and answered our questions. He was a bit rushed at some point but he was always around and ready to step in. We were given free dessert since it was my marriage anniversary. The food was wrapped for us before we left. The server changed the towels several times throughout the dinner. Once he sees your towel is on the table he will replace it with a new one. He also helped us with the wine selection. I suggest you ask for advise on the wine.
📋: It goes without saying that this a fine dining experience. You'll be paying way too much money here. Expect something around $200 per 2 people and be prepared. I think the overall experience is that this place is okay. I am not left with the impression that I can't wait to come back. I'm not excited to come back again. And at this price tag, you kind of expect to be wowed. I might be back. But I'll definitely be trying other fine dining places before I consider this place again. If you only care about food then I can recommend this place and be sure that you will not be...
Read moreThis is the first time I've been to the new location. I do prefer this spot to the original. It pains me to write this review because for a long time I felt this was the best not only steak joint but best restraunts period in the city. However that was not the case on this night and there were more misses than hits for our dinner. It was a slow Tuesday the 1st of September. We started with the rock shrimp app and the pork ravioli. The shrimp had a nice light breading and the sauce was average. It honestly could have been poured out a bottle with the label, Kraft on it. A few simple lemon wedges would of really helped it out. New was the ravioli which I've had previously and was fantastic. This time it was barely warm, and the pasta itself was thick, under cooked and gluey tasting, not good. Next we decided to try for another app and went for the maple bourbon glazed thick cut bacon. Why did nobody suggest we try this? This is a must order for every table on every night. It was the best thing we ate this night and I would never come here and not order it. In fact we debated ordering a second one, it was THAT good! The contrast between the greens, and the gastric and the bacon was pure heaven. Next was on to the lobster bisque which we often try everywhere we go. This had a strange off putting taste and was very gritty. The lobster was sweet and tasty but it was not enough to save the dish. It was time for the main course. We were going to split the 60 day dry aged ribeye cooked to medium rare. Combine that with butternut squash risotto and truffle mash. We also decided to add on some scallops for good measure. Since we were splitting the steak we said they could cut it and put it on 2 plates for us. To our complete shock, this $95 reserve cut came out blue. I mean completely raw in the middle. With just a glance I could tell, I mean they did cut it, could they not have seen this? When touched it was cold, like under room temperature cold. I normally send nothing back and don't feel like I'm to critical but for this place and this price, I had to. The staff was excellent as always and whisked it away and in a few short minutes it came back out and it was pretty good. Not great, like I've had steaks here in the past, but ok. I felt it was much smaller than the size listed and probably should of went with something else. I would never get this cut again as I've had much better around town, or Vegas. The scallop add on was just pathetic. First $16 for 2 that were not much bigger than a quarter. Ouch. Second, they were rubbery with no color and just plain terrible. Avoid ordering those at all cost. The risotto was very nice and the mash were very good. In fact the second best thing we ate all night. We followed that up with a chocolate cake dessert which was the third best thing we ate. No coffee was offered and that would of been fantastic with it. We did also have a bottle of wine with dinner. For a almost $300 dinner for 2 I left feeling very cheated. When I thought about this meal in the following days I actually was mad. Luckily this was not my first time there, if it was I for sure would never go back. There are just to many other places with superior food. I cannot justify the price to dine here anymore after this meal. The staff overall were very nice and did a great job. I did find it odd that nobody said anything about the steak being...
Read moreExcellent service, food, and atmosphere. We went with a group of 5 to celebrate a birthday. Our table's lighting was a little too dark, but I believe it's due to the new COVID-19 spacing guidelines. The table was placed in an area that it may have not originally been meant for. There were no lights pointed at our table so it made the menu difficult to read however it wasn't a deal breaker.
Food: We started with the Mangalitsa Ravioli and the Bone Marrow. I recommend both if you're feeling the splurge. Loved both of them! They give you a special spoon to scoop out the bone marrow, it was so useful! Our group had some members who hadn't tried bone marrow before and they loved it. If you love rich, beefy flavors or are a fan of the fattiness on a steak, bone marrow is indulgent and very thick in beef and fat flavor. The portion sizes of their appetizers are generous. Fred made sure we had enough to share without over-ordering. Some group members also ordered the Lobster Bisque, the soup of the day and the house salad. All were 10/10. Steaks were seasoned and cooked perfectly, using very high quality meat. It was nice to see they had Japanese Wagyu and Domestic Wagyu on the menu. If you are interested in trying Wagyu without paying the price for the Japanese version, try the domestic one. We've had both at other places before and were very excited with the quality at Carnevor. The Alaskan crab legs were also amazing. The sides are large enough to share family style. For the sides, our table shared the Truffle Mashed Potatoes with Lobster, Mac and Cheese, Caramelized Brussels with Bacon. All were so good. I could order the mashed potatoes alone and be completely happy! We also had their take on Tiramisu for dessert, called the Pick Me Up. Presentation, flavors and portions on all of the food is world class.
Service: Our server, Fred, was fantastic. He provided excellent wine pairing suggestions, checked on us just enough and gave us space to eat when we needed. They also put a card on the table that read Happy Birthday for our birthday guest, that was a nice touch that showed they really go above and beyond. They also surprised our table with a donut dessert and a birthday candle. Due to the size of our table, they gave us two desserts which was a wonderful surprise. Usually most restaurants only give you one birthday dessert. The level of service here is top notch.
There is also valet parking in front of the restaurant for $7. Very reasonable if you are there for a special occasion or date. It's so worth it if you don't want to search for downtown parking and walk a few blocks, especially in the winter and if any ladies in your party are wearing heels. Management also came by the tables to ensure everything was satisfactory. Whenever I see that at a restaurant, I know they are well organized.
Highly recommend for any special occasions, date nights, anniversaries, birthdays, or if you're just feeling an indulgent dinner. Thank you, Fred, and team Carnevor for making our friend's...
