Saying the photos online misrepresent the actual hotel is a gross understatement. This hotel was one of the dirtiest I've ever been in—if not the dirtiest. Stains all over the bathroom floor. Hair everywhere. Dust everywhere. It took them until day 3 to properly clean my room. They came back on day 2 to re-clean after I told them the floors were disgusting and nothing was dusted. After that cleaning, the floors were untouched and nothing was dusted. Finally, they cleaned on the third day and paid attention to the floors and dusting, but that is wildly unacceptable. I’d also like to mention that I called after the first additional cleaning, but they’d gone home for the night, and there was no room available for me to move to. Unacceptable. I will say, the staff was so incredibly nice, but cleanliness is number 1 for me when staying in a hotel, and that is such a basic need. Fast forward to now, I was told I could get a partial refund, and I have been ghosted by the hotel. I have reached out at least ten times, and get "we will get back with you soon" as a response. I ended up doing a chargeback on my credit card.

The location of the Sonder is prime! The rooms are clean, smell good and it has a pretty good sized washroom. The rooms are spacious for a party of 2. There are 2 elevators serving the many floors and they move fast so I never had an issue with having to wait too long. The beds are on the softer side but my partner and I still had comfortable nights. Biggest con for me is the lack of staff and the amenities featured on the website such as their “essential locker” was non existent. We requested for fresh towels day 3 morning of our stay as they do not offer free housekeeping (for a fee $35). Front desk stated they would provide us with it and after waiting a while, I left to enjoy the rest of my day in NYC. When I returned at night there were no towels and there were no staff to request for it. Requested it via the app and over the phone once when I was not getting prompt responses on the app. It super troublesome to get towels and I felt like I was chasing after them.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sonder Henri. Staff were always welcoming and incredibly helpful. It’s a no fuss, easy way to stay in one of the most central locations in the city. The rooms are simple and well maintained. The shower showed a bit of wear but was clean. The doors are not soundproof so you can hear when people are in the hallway. I’m a deep sleeper so any noise did not bother me. This may not be the case for other people. We also had a cute little balcony that looked onto 24th Street and nearby buildings. It was pricier than I’d normally pay but you’re paying for location - 23rd Subway entrance 1/2 a block in either direction, which is worth it on a super hot summer day. 10 min walk to MSG. Flatiron and Eataly at your doorstep. 20 min casual walk to Empire State or Times Square. Would definitely stay at a Sonder Hotel again in any city!

Resharing my feedback as I couldn’t see it on Google. I stayed at this Sonder 3 weeks ago:

The only good think about this hotel is the location, quite central and close to some interesting spots and cafes.

Arguably the worst thing is the lack of sound insulation in the rooms. It’s like going back to your parents house for the night - you can hear every room nearby, people speaking at normal volumes but you can hear them clearly from your room, multiple stomping people upstairs early in the morning and returning late at night, furniture being dragged, you can hear tvs being played through the day and night nearby and people slamming their doors coming back from wild nights in NYC (their noises match this too…). The aircon in our room was this old beast of a unit that is so loud it sounded like a plane, we decided this was too disruptive to our sleep but have no fear, our neighbours had theirs on all night so we could hear it grumbling and getting louder and softer in its air cycle.

We did try to contact Sonder through their app to request a quieter room (mainly as our neighbours were very loud talkers/verbal fighters) and were told they would be in touch if something could be organised. We never heard back and when we went downstairs a few hours later for dinner we asked the concierge if they could help - customer service wasn’t great, almost dismissive, no apology for the noise or “let me see what I can do!”, just silence as he and some random man starred at a computer - it made me feel awkward for complaining which isn’t great. In the end we were told there was no other rooms available other than a room with two single beds and all they could do was tell the couple to be quite. I highlighted how uncomfortable that made me feel as our room and the noisy room were the only two together down a small corridor so it would be clear we complained. And I triple checked and apparently yes the other other room was two Single beds - which wouldn’t be nice for me and my husband. So we decided to leave it for the trip and stay in the awful room - again no empathy shown by staff. In the end we looked at the rooms available online at the Sonder for the remaining nights of our stay and there was quite a few options to chose from, and the two bed room clearly stated double beds which would have been fine - so it seems the staff were lying so we wouldn’t move? God ford they upgrade us for this major inconvenience to a quieter spot. Or tell us the two bed room has beds that could accommodate two.

Truly go somewhere else. This place wasn’t cheap for the major major noise disruptions we experienced (right now we are here, it’s 8am and the couple next door are fighting again and the person upstairs is getting ready for their day with what sounds like heels or boots on). Also they don’t clean the room unless you pay an extra $50 something plus tax and tip - again given the per night cost this is the minimum I’d expect.

For Sonder reference, booking was under Dawson.

Updates: I love waking up at 6:53 in the morning because the couple next door are arguing once more we can hear the rooms upstairs have sex, not great. the pillows here are terrible. Far too soft and not supportive. Get ready for neck aches we were able to extend our check out by 30m which was good. The two female staff this morning were...

We got moved from our original hotel, we were fine with this and the location was great for our trip. We loved the easy self check in, the app went down during our trip but we were able to access our room with help from staff using a key code. The room was small for 3 adults, for 13 nights. There is next to no storage and we had no where to store our cases and bags, but we knew that before so dealt with it. Bathroom was a good size and the shower was fabulous. The shower door did leak though. The hot water went down for a day, but was fixed quickly. We had 2 free cleans during the stay as compensation either for being moved or the no hot water. I am not sure how much the cleaning is, but it was difficult to clean the room with all our stuff in, it was nice to have bed fresh though. On checking out we were looking around the room to see if we had packed everything, on looking inside the small ledge/headboard which we had put a few things like coiled up cables etc on we looked inside and found 2 toenails and loads of dust!! So not sure how thorough the cleaning is. The coffee machine and free pods was a god send and saved us loads in the morning. We found the fridge really good and used it for snacks and drinks. We didn’t have a microwave, but I think we could have asked for one. We had 2 beds, one mattress was soft and one memory foam, this was fine for us but I know previous reviews had mentioned the very soft mattress, which I couldn’t sleep on either but my husband was ok. The bar on the top floor is lovely and has lovely very grown up cocktails and a nice chilled atmosphere. On checking out we used the luggage storage for a few hours, staff were lovely and super chilled about taking 9 bags off us without issue. Hotel felt secure with 24 hour person on the door. Wi Fi worked well. I would use again for the price we paid, however I think this would be more than we paid as we were moved at no increased charge. I would definitely use Sonder in nyc again as we really liked that there was no nightly service charge, if you can deal with the pared down service associated with this it...

We lived in NYC before but recently moved to Toronto. Spent new year ‘24 to see friends & family.

The pictures of Sonder Henri gave us the impression that the hotel was nicer than it actually is…. The rooms… it was not horrible. I would say that it’s sufficient. Very utilitarian, definitely not fancy but sufficient.

The whole experience is driven by their app. Before check-in, you were assigned a room with the room code. There is essentially no check-in process- which is not necessarily a bad thing. There was minimal staff. Chat on the app for support, they do reply after 10-15 minutes.

our room had a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and that’s it. No slippers, no robe. The bathroom was also sufficient. Our room had a leaking shower. We requested towels to mop up the water, they promptly sent towels. They also sent someone to ‘repair’ the leak. They tried to add some tape to the shower door but it didn’t really help, so we were mopping water every time we showered. We could’ve followed up for them to repair but we didn’t want to waste time.

You’re given the option for early check-in late checkout through the app. Standard check in is at 4pm. Early Check in at 3pm for something like $20, 2pm for $30 and so forth. Checkout works the same way. But keep in mind to choose ahead of time. We requested for late checkout the day of checkout but couldn’t anymore as the next guest requested for early check-in.

Again, we were slightly disappointed because we thought the hotel/rooms were better because of the photos but we were not too mad. We weren’t in the room for most of time. The beds were comfortable. room was quiet (10F). And the location is very very very good. Close to F,N subway.

It seemed to me that the staff were not trained in usual hotel-level hospitality, which is I think is a low hanging fruit and that they should be. But individually, they were nice. They were not ultra hospitable like typical hotels, but they were not rude.

Would probably try to look for other options if there are in the same price range but if not, this will definitely suffice, not a...
