Context: former travel agent, traveling with my spouse, we are both frequent travelers, this trip was without our kids for some fun in Charleston.||I am sitting in our room on the last night of our trip. It's 11:15pm, there is a dog barking down the hall that won't stop. The room was dirty when we checked in, I blew it off, knowing that people are stretched thin, figuring it's not a big deal, and housekeeping will be coming soon to wipe it down, right? Nope.||They've texted me numerous times to ask how our stay is, I've told them (three times now) that in 4 nights, housekeeping hasn't come once - not one time - and they don't care. They text an apology, and basically shrug with an oh well, and an offer of clean towels, that's it. ||Today there was a cat lost in the hotel, and I watched one of the staff roll her eyes at the lady who was upset and looking for her cat. The Chargers in the lobby on the side of the couch are broken, the plate is dangling off. The tables and seats are sticky. ||I asked for more coffee, they said I would have to go down and get it myself. My husband ended up going down the next morning, because we can't possibly ask for help or service that we're paying for.||The breakfast is terrible, it reminds me of school cafeteria food in the 90s when you weren't quite sure if it was safe. We got groceries, which is lovely given than no one empties the trash in the room because we have had zero housekeeping in 4 days, so it just piles up.||The trash cans - tiny and designed to be emptied daily - are overflowing because there is not a staff member here who actually cares about the people staying here.||There are actually two Home2 Suites properties in North Charleston, we accidentally navigated to the wrong one and walked in and I knew instantly it was off because the lobby was clean and the front desk person was kind and warm. The difference was shocking.||I've worked in the industry in lots of different roles and have watched this go downhill, and this is one of the worst stays we've had in a long time. ||This stay was almost $200/night, and beyond disappointing. I've stayed in $69/night Super 8 motels that far surpassed the cleanliness and level of service that...
Read moreThe hotel is nice, however, BEWARE OF THE BREAKFAST, let me explain.
My husband and I went down to make our food, it was approximately 15 minutes before they put up the food.
I made a waffle which took a good 5 minutes to get the almost empty batter thing to fill the little cup. No problem, I have patience. I made my waffle. My husband enjoyed his brioche sandwich. He loved it so much that he went to get another sandwich. He asked me if I wanted some milk, yes, please! He grabbed 4 milks. I poured one into a little cup and enjoyed mine. My husband opened up his and took a big ol’ drink and immediately spit it out on his plate. A few long seconds later, he had to hold his hand over his mouth and head to the restroom to vomit his entire breakfast up.
I spoke with the manager and he was very nice and said he would do whatever he could to make it right on his end.
The sweet lady that I handed the rotten and curdled milk to literally told me that every week there’s bad milk.
My husband sat outside of the hotel in misery with his stomach gurgling and heaving for at least an hour after he threw up his breakfast.
The manager flat told me that they can’t get a different food service because it’s the Hilton standard.
Not that it matters but, I had just lost my mother the night before all this happened and we sure didn’t need to deal with this, not at all a good way to start your morning.
Take this advice, y’all. Smell the milk before you drink it! I’m writing this at a Hilton-owned Hampton Inn a few hours north of Charleston and we are not even going to try their breakfast here and it’s our second time at this hotel!
My husband is USMC Veteran and we were on a short trip down to MCRD...
Read moreJust wrapped up a stay at the Home2 Suites and honestly? It was a really solid experience. Let’s be real—this isn’t some luxury boutique spot that’s going to blow your mind, but for what it is (a Hilton sub-brand, limited service kind of place), it punches above its weight.
The hotel feels pretty new and clean—definitely has that modern Hilton vibe, like they’ve kept up with renovations and design trends without it feeling sterile or cookie-cutter. Front desk staff were on it too, super efficient and helpful with check-in, which always makes a difference.
Location-wise, it’s not down in Charleston proper, but it’s only about a 15-minute drive to the peninsula. Not ideal if you’re looking to walk out your door and be in the heart of the city, but totally reasonable and convenient if you’re driving or ridesharing around.
One of the biggest (pleasant) surprises was the breakfast. It’s included, and I went in with pretty low expectations—but honestly? It was one of the better free hotel breakfasts I’ve had in a while. Good variety, fresh stuff, and not just the sad basics.
We booked a King Suite and the room was great. Bed was comfy—not incredible, but definitely good enough for a solid night’s sleep. The little couch and kitchenette setup was nice to have, and everything was clean and felt fresh.
All in all, this isn’t the kind of place you book for an unforgettable hotel experience—it’s a clean, convenient, well-run spot that offers great value, especially considering how reasonable it was to book with Hilton Honors points. I’d absolutely stay here again. Easy...
