I am a Diamond member and choose to stay at Hilton where ever I go. This DoubleTree is NOT a normal DoubleTree as it falls way short to the standard. My wife and I arrived at the hotel around 1pm today (7/2/2022) and was able to check-in. The front desk employee (Ethan I think?) was very courteous and accommodating. We went up to the room and noticed hair in the shower (walls and drain). Normally, this does not bother me since I’m a combat veteran and have seen worse, however, it was enough where it disgusted my wife. I spoke to Ethan and he reached out to the cleaning staff to have it cleaned. We left and came back around 6pm, and the shower was not cleaned. I reached out to Ethan about it and he moved us to a Junior Suite on the 2nd floor.
The Junior Suite is nice and semi-spacious, however it has a downfall. When walking into the room, you immediately get blasted with the presence of Hades! It was 76° in there. I turned down the temperature to the lower 60s and left for dinner and a visit with family around 6:30pm. Well, we have just come back from dinner (10:30pm) and guess what? It’s still 76° in here! So, I decided to sit by the a/c unit because cold air comes out, just not able to cool off the room.
I ended up walking downstairs to check out what’s going on downstairs since there are a lot of people hanging out at the bar. As I walked down the 2nd floor to the elevators, I was hit with the lovely (sarcasm) smell of weed. The smell lingers somewhere near the elevators area. I get to the 1st floor and saw all the people hanging out and having a good time. I approached the front desk to grab a cookie (since we all know DoubleTree is known for their cookies). Received a cookie and told the lady at the front desk (unsure of name) that just a heads up about the weed smell. She shrugged me off and just said there’s nothing she can do about it. Which I completely understand.
I walked back up to the room. Now, I’m typing this while hanging out with Hades. I have one more night at this hotel. This will be my last stay at this location, which is sad because it’s conveniently located in between my family, downtown Charleston, and the airport.
I know I will be getting the typical/automated-like response of something similar to “sorry we failed to meet your expectations. Reach out to this URL….”. Hopefully someone in management can actually fix the issues going on here. Otherwise, they will continue to lose their customers by them going elsewhere….like the DoubleTree in Mt. Pleasant. Love that place. I knew I should’ve continued going there than trying a...
Read moreMy daughter and I recently stayed in room 412 at DoubleTree in Charleston. While we initially had a pleasant stay, our experience took a turn for the worse at check-out time. As I was ready to leave, the toilet unexpectedly overflowed ocen style, causing water to flood the bathroom and seep into the room carpet soaked. Despite my attempts to call downstairs for assistance, there was no response. My seven-year-old had to wade through the water to notify hotel staff of the urgent situation.
After finally reaching someone, a maintenance staff member was sent to address the issue. However, the process was disjointed and frustrating. We had to open the door for the maintenance worker twice, forcing us to walk through the flooded area each time. When I requested that a hotel employee accompany him with a key to access the room safely, the initial communication seemed ineffective.
Following this incident, we were relocated to room 410 to clean up, only to find that this room also had its own issues, including a missing shower curtain. Additionally, a hotel staff member entered the room without warning while we were inside, which made us feel uncomfortable and disrespected.
The series of events made me feel targeted and disrespected, especially considering the lack of attention to safety and sanitation throughout our ordeal. The interaction in the restaurant earlier that day, where staff made unwelcoming remarks about the food not being complementary as if we expected it to be, further added to our overall dissatisfaction.
the handling of the overflowing toilet, the room relocation process, and the unsettling encounters with staff left me feeling discriminated against and undervalued as a guest. I hope that the hotel management takes appropriate steps to improve their response to such incidents in the future, prioritizing customer safety and well-being above all else.
To the staff member that walked in room 410 while I was taken the shower to ask if I overflowed the toilet because it had never don't that before.
This is my guess it's a sewer issue because a stop-up toilet don't do all that.

Read moreJust left and never even stayed there. We tried to, tried really hard. Made a reservation, even had a room assigned to us, but when we tried to get our key, we’ll, they checked us in but then told us they didn’t have our room ready and would let us know. We arrived 1.25 hours AFTER checkin but still didn’t have a room. When asked how long it would be, what’s the hold up, etc., we’re just told by reception desk staff “I don’t know” over and over again. We took it on good faith that they’d do their best to get a room ready but we looked around reception and saw family after family after family waiting waiting waiting waiting. I as close enough to the desk to hear over and over the dreaded, on repeat I don’t know which was not spoken with kindness, sympathy, or attempt at lighthearted humor but monotone, no eye contact, couldn’t give a hoot kind of attitude. I went back up to the desk hoping that the squeaky wheel routine would serve me well. A man in front of me threatened to checkout and, boom, he got a room so…? Talked to the apparent manager or would be manager, a skinny blonde who attempted of his failingly to smile her way out of this hole. Taking our info she made statements that seemed oh so promising like “let me check on that” or “let me make a call” but in the end still no room. We were told that apparent new pillows were to blame, that they’d gotten in new pillows and staff was busy changing old pillows to new…as dozens of people sat waiting and waiting, looking much like raw fish left out too long from the fridge (yeah, who does that but the imagery fits). I REFUSE to accept any response to this review like the ol’ your opinions are important to us as we strive to improve. That dog won’t hunt. In all comes down to this. We’re not kings or stately people, just hard working folk looking for a place to rest our head. If you can’t honor the bargain made (when you accepted our reservation) then get out of the business. No smile will suffice for this abysmal failure. Heck, they didn’t even offer us the quintessential cookies as we waited…and waited and waited. Shame on you. ...
