Upon entering the hotel I stated that I was there to check-in, and was immediately told by the front desk clerk that they were booked solid. I told her that I had a reservation and I looked up my confirmation number. I had booked the non-smoking room a week earlier through Choice Hotels using member points, stated that it would be a late check-in, and requested a first floor room. We had stayed in this hotel before and found it to be very pleasant, clean and adequate for our needs. Not until the front desk clerk and now the manager had my confirmation number, did they realize that I had made a reservation! After a period of time they finally found a room, although not on the first floor. Parking was awful, parts of the lot were roped off and there was an unusual amount of large vehicles and trailers, I finally found a place to park albeit not a parking space. The room was on the second floor, supposedly non-smoking, and reeked of cigarette smoke. Back down to the front desk, I stated the situation. The manager came up, apologized, and sprayed the room for the odor. He also stated that he would call and have my points given back to me for all of the trouble. Although the room still smelled of cigarette smoke, it was better, and we stayed the night. I cannot say that the room was OK. Besides smelling, it did not appear to be very clean. The sheets and the towels were clean. Two of the light fixtures did not work. The morning light also showed us that the entire hotel looked very worn and dirty. Nothing about the hotel seemed like the hotel we had stayed in 2 years prior. We were very disappointed, and agreed not to stay here again. When I checked out, the manager once again apologized for all of the issues and stated he would call and have my points given back to me. Although the manager was very nice, apologetic, and did all he could, I still have not received any of my points back, or any correspondence, from anyone, pertaining to them. I have held off leaving this review to see if my account with Choice Hotels had been credited the points. I have been a loyal Choice Rewards member for several years and have never had any problems with booking, stays, actual hotels, or point usage. This hotel to me is very questionable as to if it should have a Quality Inn ranking, let alone be within the Choice...
Read moreOkay I realize that this room was only 90.00, however the night before I had stayed at Comfort Inn in Charlotte and it was the same price. I don't expect much at this price, however I do want a clean room. I originally did go look at a room before taking a room. They gave me a different room because we did not want to be by the pool. It all went downhill from there. First off went to put our food and drinks in the fridge and found it full of water and some kind of orange substance, picture attached. So we filled our cooler with ice and decided not to complain about this issue. The tables were also splochy with something, the top headboard dusty when I ran my finger along the top. We went to bed none the wiser of anything being wrong. Woke up in the morning and went to grab my phone at the bedside table and saw something go scurrying along the table. I grabbed the alarm clock and smooshed the bug. Turned the light on and to my disgust found what I was almost positive was a fairly mature bed bug. After some research it indeed was, picture is attached. I will say that the manager Ms. White was very professional when we got ahold of her, her front desk staff seemed unbothered by the situation. She was very apologetic and informed us the room would be closed to guests until it was fumigated, also that our charges would be credited back to our card. Now don't get me wrong about this either I understand that bedbugs come from guests not the hotel, it is their responsibility however to take care of such problems and train their housekeepers how to identify invested rooms. I truely hope this opens her eyes to the lack of care that her housekeeping staff takes in cleaning the rooms. Cutting corners in the hospitality business can be a costly mistake, also can cause health concerns for those guests who stay in such rooms. We are closely watching our bites for infection. The breakfast was nothing special, microwaved cheese omelets, canned gravy and frozen biscuits. The juice had a funny taste from the water (I have noticed this at several hotels across the Carolinas.) I will not ever be going back to this hotel, valuable...
Read moreThis is one Quality Inn that we will never stay in again. We were in town for a concert on February 17th and we had made advance reservations to stay at this hotel. We specifically asked for an non-smoking room when the reservation was made. When we checked in, the first thing we were told was that the safe in our room did not work. We were okay with that but as we approached our room, we could smell the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke outside of our door. The smell was horrible once we opened the door to the room, and my family did not want to stay in the room because of it. We asked for another room and were promptly told that the hotel was full and there was nothing that they could do for us. What they did not mention was that the hotel is being renovated so at least 1/3 of it was unavailable for use. We went to the store and bought air freshener which helped only minimally.
After the concert, we stopped back by the hotel office to get more toilet paper (there was only 1/2 roll in our room for 4 people when we checked in). I again reported the horrible stench in our room and asked how to file a complaint. The attendant said he would report it to his manager the next morning, and he gave me a can of spray of smoke elimination spray to attempt to decrease the order of smoke which only helped a little. We ended up sleeping in our clothes and left early the next morning. Our clothes and luggage reeked of smoke once we arrived home and everything had to be washed completely.
In addition to the stench of smoke, the hotel room was extremely outdated with dirty carpet, large water stains on the ceiling, was questionably clean and one of the hand towels had lipstick stains on it when we arrived.
It is sad that a "Quality Inn" in such close proximity to the North Charleston Pavilion and the Tanger Outlets would offer such a poor experience to their guests. We have stayed at many Choice hotels and never had anything close to this awful experience, and this is the first negative hotel review that I have ever written. Please think twice before booking a room here. I can say for sure that we will never be back at...
