Desert Hills Hotel in Palm Springs is more than just a place to stay; it's a step into a beautifully preserved mid-century oasis. From the moment you see its stunning architecture, you're transported to the 1950’s heyday of Palm Springs.
Hidden behind tall shrubs, the hotel reveals a magical setting with guest rooms arranged around a pristine pool, creating a serene and private atmosphere. The decor is a blend of modern and vintage, featuring luxurious linens, warm towels, plush bathrobes, and convenient amenities like a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, and microwave. Thoughtful touches like a complimentary in-room honor bar filled with fancy drinks and snacks.
The rooms are a testament to meticulous maintenance, especially the bathrooms with their original 1950s tiles, looking as new and spotless as ever. The water pressure in the shower is exceptional, complemented by luxurious Beekman 1802 bath products.
But what truly sets Desert Hills apart is its incredible location walking distance to endless shopping, dining, and entertainment options, and its tranquil ambiance in the best and fanciest neighborhood in downtown Palm Springs. Nestled right beside the mountain, it offers incredible and enchanting views. It's so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. This peace and quiet is a rare find, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Adding to the experience is the effortless check-in and check-out process, making every aspect of the stay convenient and pleasant.
While part of me wishes to keep this gem a secret, it's too wonderful not to share. Desert Hills is a slice of heaven in Palm Springs, a must-visit for anyone seeking a blend of luxury, tranquility, and...
Read moreAuthentic Palm Springs - the quiet version! Lovely little property with immaculate grounds, charming little suites, and nestled against the hills (in the perfect neighborhood). As mentioned, the grounds are very well kept and it is a quaint, and well preserved, property, but it's also removed enough for total peace and quiet, but close enough to everything you need for your visit. As a long removed Southern California native, this was my parents' Palm Springs!
In relation to the accommodations, this is a classic single story apartment complex converted to guest suites. Pool and hot tub are focal points, as are the views. Rooms are authentic and simple, but well suited to a longer stay. Thoughtful cabinetry and configuration make the studios super efficient and the transition between in and out is seamless. Private back patios are great for a little more privacy, but the pool deck is where you'll wanna be. Basic essentials are provided and the built in grills (pool deck) definitely warrant dinners in. I could not have not enjoyed the experience more.
One thing to know is the guest making experience at Desert Hills is very hands off. No desk, not much interaction with the staff. Be prepared to provide for yourself. They could have some in room resources, but I'm guessing most guests are tending to be repeat visitors and know their way around. With that, we didn't lack for anything and they were happy to answer questions when called upon. Housekeeping staff = EXCELLENT and very kind!

Read moreI'm very torn about how to review Desert Hills. We loved everything about it except for one somewhat major issue - we kept finding large, dead (or dying) cockroaches in our room. Four total during our stay.
The pros - the hotel has beautiful mountain views + the grounds are lush and well manicured. Its a peaceful hotel with only 14 rooms, and it has a much more zen vibe than some of the other hotels I've stayed at in the area (i.e. no music / talking on the phone poolside). As someone who checks mattresses for cleanliness - the mattress in the room we stayed in (vintage king) was very clean and comfortable and we slept well. The staff seemed great + its clear that the cleaning crew does a good job spraying down the communal areas each morning.
The cons - waking up on our first morning to find a large cockroach on its back in the bathroom (still somewhat alive), and another in a corner of the room. I called the main desk and was told that there wasn't much they could do, that they spray regularly and that this is sometimes what happens when they die, and that housekeeping would clean up. I understand its probably very difficult to keep these out with an old hotel, but honestly I've never had this issue anywhere I've stayed, and I especially don't expect it when I'm paying $288 per night. The woman on the phone was super nice, but I'd probably have expected some sort of discount in this situation, which was not offered. Given the roaches, not sure...
