A nice little hidden Korean café, good food and good atmosphere.
They have your standard fare of coffees and some smoothies, sadly I noticed the smoothie list second otherwise I would have ordered that rather than a coffee. The latte was nothing special, and for 4.25$ for a small I'd say it's alright value.
Some sugars and other things off to the side, and plenty of milk options including soy and oat.
The menu isn't big but it doesn't have to be, if has standard fare breakfast and lunch options with some Korean bulgogi choices.
I had the breakfast bulgogi sandwich, and although I ordered non-spicy I do have to mention as a white guy who can't stand spicy at all, it was still slightly spicy. Nothing too bad but something to note. I had it on a croissant, and it was arguably small. About two thirds of a Wawa shorti. But for 6.55 I'd say it's good value. It was good but again, nothing special.
The atmosphere is quaint and it has a larger upstairs section with good seating so don't be fooled by the small lower section. I wish it was slightly cleaner, but that's getting into nitpicking territory.
I'd definitely rate this place a hard 4-4.5, nothing I'd go out of my way to go back to, but if I'm in the area and peckish or had some time to kill I'd definitely stop by. Don't get me wrong, it is very good for both value and taste, just not...
Read moreMy wife and I were walking in Philly early Sunday, Nov. 5th looking for a place to eat breakfast, and as we turned on a street we smelled the most wonderful baked goods. We walked down to the basement where the Cafe Walnut counter is, and was greeted very warmly. We ordered sesame bagels with egg and cheese, teas, and a chocolate croissant, and the young lady at the counter informed us that there's a nice seating area upstairs. The food was wonderful, and the seating area is cozy, decorated tastefully (and not overdone as in some cafes). The Korean music was very soothing.
We want back a few hours later and asked for a strawberry and banana smoothie, and a mango and pineapple smoothie, (not too sweet). And the lady made them perfectly (she didn't add any syrup and everything was made on the spot)! I commented on how great the place is and the wonderful baked goods smell. As we sat, the young lady came and gave us a freshly made chocolate muffin on the house. It was such a wonderful gesture, and a great way to remember a superb, cozy cafe run by friendly and sweet staff who know how to make people feel at home. We'll go back here any time...
Read moreMy partner and I visited this place today, and I gotta say it’s gonna be my new go-to breakfast spot. We both got the bugolgi egg and cheese sandwich on an Asiago bagel, and it was absolutely delicious. I’m used to bagels being very thick and heavy, but the bagels here are soft and not too much to eat. If you don’t like spice, I wouldn’t go for the bugolgi because it’s got a lil kick to it, but it’s not too bad though! I also got a hot latte with half&half with caramel- though I wish it was a tad sweeter, but still was very good. My partner got a mango pineapple smoothie, and it had a nice fresh fruit flavor- also very good!
We hung out in their upstairs seating area, and it was very nice and cozy. A good handful of people working on their own things! Definitely seems like a nice chill spot to get some work done.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. Good food, good drinks, good atmosphere. I will most definitely...
