Excellent front desk worker called Brian who checked me in on my first night. Brian is welcoming, nurturing, has a good sense of humor, professional skills, and you can tell he loves the area and loves explaining how to navigate around Pigeon Forge.
Downhill on vibration of everyone else I encounted at the front desk though.
To note, housekeeping is not part of my focus here. Those employees break backs and are also smiling.
My first problem was that the hotel restaurant missing breakfast items the next morning. I was told breakfast would be $14.95, but I believed as IHG diamond elite that I was given breakfast with my stay. Nevertheless, I was told there was no indication on my account so I would have to pay. I decided not to do that and went elsewhere for breakfast.
After I ate breakfast elsewhere, I booked another night so we can stay as long as possible since weather was cooperating. I booked online, went to reregister and asked the attendant for a late check out and was given an hour. I asked for 2 pm but was told about incoming rooms so 12 was the policy. Went off to Dollywood. Came back and saw Kevin and asked if I could sleep in and receive a later checkout, but not to honor if the hotel would be busy. He changed it to 2 pm and thanked me for being Diamond Elite. Considering our long drive the next day, this extra rest was helpful.
During the overnight though, I was up at 2 am - I went to the lobby for some snacks. The snack area was non-existent. Practically nothing. I was told that a 24 hr pharmacy was open. Huh? No. How about management identifying the snack area, opening the petty cash box and send someone down to the supermarket to grab a few items to snack on, even if you don't sell it and place as a hospitality basket? Do something!
I went to breakfast the day of checkout. I didn't have to pay because somone finally got it right that breakfast was included for my stay. Many items were missing though. The 2 employee servers/food prep were amazing. They did the best they could citing no truck delivery yet.
I can't imagine people paying $14.95 for breakfast, especially if inventory is low. There were some verbal complaints. I also felt for the workers who become a punching bag. The good news is that during checkout, the food truck entered.
This short trip was part of our honeymoon haul. We have been traveling since January 6 visiting places of importance and simply wanted to fit in Dollywood, otherwise we would've skipped.
None of the above is the end of the world. I used 2 reward nights, so I used the benefit of being a supporter of IHG. Yet it was just an akward stay. I run a business and feeds about 1500 room nights a year to Holiday Inn. I don't recall expeiencing akward, but this is the first time I stayed somewhere for liesure, or in an area that's highly...
Read moreShort three day, two night stay. The location is very good, with a very short drive to Dollywood, and just across the river from the Convention/Conference Center, and walking distance to fun stuff like restaurants, shopping, tourist trap rides, activities, and such. Enjoyed dropping into the Causual Pint located in the Holiday Inn, to watch some football. My room was on the 6th floor with a small balcony, very clean, comfortable. Parking behind the hotel was easy in and out. The entrance to the hotel is HIDDEN, no signage. I walked into the Casual Pint on arrival and they helped me find the registration lobby of the hotel( I had not stayed here before) They need SIGNAGE to guide folks to their side door, hidden entry? The check in was rapid, verbally too much to handle, and nothing in the room to help recall. (Did this hotel just open?) From the balcony I could see the walking bridge going across to the Convention Center, and the riverside walkway that led to some fun shopping and restaurants....BUT when I approached the bridge from the hotel I learned that there was a fence blocking my entry onto the bridge? Had to return to the hotel, go down to the street level, walk back toward the bridge, go up some steps, in order to get to the bridge to walk across? (The front desk didn't give me that small detail). Has trouble getting onto the WiFi, went to front desk to get more instruction. The lady helped me get access( it was the third different way that I had used to connect, and worked at the front lobby desk), BUT did not work in my sixth floor room??? The next morning before we left to PLAY, I went by the front desk to inquire about wifi and desk clerk/tech person told me they were having trouble because the hotel was full and everyone was trying to get to the WiFi????. (A small signal issue, smile). Again, this hotel is next to the Convention Center and charging close to $300 /night and has issues like this? I picked this hotel because I thought it was across the river from the Big Ferris Wheel Shopping Center is but realized that marketing picture was obviously not made from a balcony room, as those rooms faced a parking lot in the back of hotel.
I must say as an IHG Rewards member, I missed the great welcome and amenities(free WiFi) received when I stay at Holiday Inn Expresses. (Free Breakfast). We enjoyed The Old Mill Restaurant, and Sawyers for Breakfast, and the Three Bears General Store nearby.....
Read moreOur reservation was for 7/14/24 to 7/20/24. I booked this reservation late Sunday evening while traveling to Pigeon Forge. I knew we would arrive well after the check-in time, so that was my reason for booking 7/14/24; I wanted to be able to get a room to rest after a long drive. We arrived for our stay around 7:45 on 7/15/24, and I just knew we had a room because I spoke with a guy at the front desk about 10pm CST on 7/14/24, and he informed me we would be in room 427, to which he stated was an upgrade because the room I booked was unavailable at the time. Well, upon arrival I was told that I couldn’t check in because I was checking out for no show and the earliest I could get a room was noon on 7/15/24. I was confused by this statement because of what happened to the room I was assigned? Especially since, my reservation confirmation stated that we had until check out time following the first night of our reservation to arrive before the remaining reservation would be canceled; check out was list as 11am and we and we arrived at 7:45am. We were not able to check in until after 12:30pm.
I called around 12:30pm on 7/15/24 to check if we could get a room, and I was told that there were rooms available, only to receive a room with a broken sofa bed. I returned to the front desk to inform them of the situation and was told that maintenance would come by to check the sofa bed. A guy came by and verified that in fact the bed was broken and told me to return to the front desk to get another room. Upon returning to the front, the lady told me I would be able to get a room until after 3pm. While waiting near the elevator with all of our belongings, the Queen asked if we were checking out, and we explained our situation to her. In minutes, we were in a room. Queen went out of her way to check with housekeeping to find a clean room and went to the front desk to inform them that there was a clean room available. Upon asking if I could receive a discount for the inconvenience, I was told no. I am writing because I read while booking that the company stands on making it easy and there was nothing easy about this check-in process. My family and I started searching for other lodging until the...
