DUNA by DW is by far one of the nicest, vibey, tranquil, and simple AirBnb I’ve stayed at in a while. DW is a locally owned LGBTQIA frequently/inspired collective and hospitality group in San Juan and wow, so they know how to do it right. DUNA was located in a lovely gated community just a block from the beach, another block from great restaurants and pharmacies. Walkable to just about everything you need and plenty of scooters around if you needed a faster commute. We used the pool once but was in and out just because the beach really was why we were there!
I had no hesitations with booking this place and ended up staying another 4 days in their other property APT which was a bit bigger but not as conveniently located. If I had to re-do my choices I would have probably stayed at DUNA the whole time just given it’s zen-like atmosphere. SO LOVELY. The only feedback to anyone traveling here would be to be open minded to the whole experience and you won’t be disappointed. Book an “experience” with DW - try the local more ma-pa restaurants - take a drive out of San Juan and really get the experience of what Puerto Rico is!
Besides that, DW knows what’s up! The only thing we didn’t plan for was having a cockroach in the room our first night at DUNA and a small mouse in our room at APT (ya all may want to check the outlet behind the fridge in APT 3 lol), but honestly we were not phased hence the tropical, urban location. All in all, it was a lovely place and I can’t wait to visit again!
PS eat with Chef Victor at DreamCatcher - he is such a lovely guy and is clearly so passionate about providing an authentic, and delicious experience. GIVE THAT BOY A RAISE!
Thanks for the...
Read moreThis place is a must !! Let alone ANY DW property so to speak. Do not sleep on these properties because they’re just impeccable and so unique and diverse. If I could give more than 5 stays I absolutely would ! DUNA was one of our destinations in terms of stay - we booked the traveler suite and let me tell you…amazing. The bed was one of thee most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on, the coffee bar was outstanding, their recommendations for what to do/things to see around the area was jam packed with helpful info, they evens provided a nice Spotify playlist for you, ugh. This place had everything and then some. The shared outdoor pool made you feel as if you were in Greece (incredibly clean and beautiful), the lush greenery around the villa was one of my favorite touches, they provided beach towels and chairs, everything was user friendly, and it was just outstanding. One of the most accommodating aspects to staying with DW is that they are swift at responding and resolving any concerns you may have within a timely manner. My friend and I were heading to Vieques for the day and we were switching villas (from one DW property to another). And they were so kind to let us stow our luggage with them at their bigger hotel for as long as we needed. They even offered to drop it off for us to their sister villa that we were going to be migrating to ! Do not sleep on this place..I will not stay anywhere else in PR when visiting. They have this industry down to a science and they make me feel so comfortable when staying with them. I...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at Duna by DW! We stayed in the Nomad suite. Super comfy bed, private terrace/hammock/outdoor shower was beyond beautiful. Great location - walking distance to beach, I felt super safe in the location, pool was beautiful as well as the complex overall. Also they were responsive if we had any questions. The folks over at Dreamcatcher were super nice and accommodating. (Despite the beach umbrella we rented not working at all lol.)
I wish I could give it 5 stars but every day during our stay there were both live and dead cockroaches in the suite and our private terrace area. I understand being on the ground floor insects are inevitable but it did take away from the experience. We noticed the front door had a large gap so assuming that’s where they entered. I think if the front door was flush that would prevent them from coming in. Was just a bit concerning because of our young and curious toddler in the room with us. I guess we should’ve known based on the two big cans of Raid in the kitchen. I also got bit up by mosquitoes chilling by the pool so would suggest bringing some insect repellent.
It’s cheaper than some hotel options so we don’t regret our decision but I guess it’s a tradeoff. Unfortunately I think next time we would stay in a more...
