Grab a seat at this historic local theater and enjoy a movie or a show. Honestly, I hadn't been here since I was much younger but was more than pleasantly surprised at how great it looks now. They have clearly stepped up their game with all the creative new ideas being implemented to keep both tourist and locals alike happy as Sebastian under the sea. In particular, I love taking my daughter to the Disney movies being shown now on Sundays at 3pm during the summer. It is more than just going to watch a movie. Just walking into the theater is an experience within itself. My daughter loves going there and meeting characters like Moana or Auroa in person and getting a photo with them. The snacks are all keyed to whatever Disney movie is playing and the super friendly staff is there at the door waiting to hand you your own personal princess crown or island flower necklace as soon as you come through the doors. They even gave the little one a Disney parting gift on the way out the last time we went. I even heard one of the staff talking about how she had to run all over town to get the perfect "accesories" for Sleeping Beauty. Please don't misunderstand what I am saying. In no way was she complaining. Her tone and demeanor clearly said that the little smiling faces made her shopping journey completely worth it. I just wish I had caught her name to give her the compliment directly in this review. She had a glowing enthusiasm and clear above and beyond kind of attitude that clearly showed how much she cared about creating a magical experience for the little ones coming that day. As a parent, when you see someone care about your kids happiness as much as she did it is inevitable that you will find yourself caring about the business just as much. My family and I are looking forward to seeing more movies and shows there...
Read moreThe show was fantastic, the venue is AWFUL.
First, you can't see most of the stage from the balcony. Where you should be able to see the stage through the balcony rails, all you can see is the back of a giant monitor (mounted on the balcony rails facing the stage for reasons I can't imagine) completely blocking your view. Why not have reserved seating when booking tickets?
Second, they continued allowing patrons into the theatre 45 MINUTES after the show started! I'm sorry if you're running late, but professional venues don't allow people in once the show has started. It's disruptive, and disrespectful to the actors and patrons who got there on time.
Third, there were no ushers whatsoever so the audience were talking and playing on their phones, being profoundly rude to the performers and other audience members. There was no one to put a stop to it.
Finally, I understand this is a historic venue, but if any kind of emergency were to occur here it would be a disaster. If there were a fire or a shooting, the choke points for the crowd are so narrow that a crowd crush would be inevitable. It's dangerous.
I love live theatre and historic venues, but I won't see another show at the Lucas until they develop some respect for...
Read moreBeautiful theater. We stepped back in time and enjoyed the archittecture and great performance. We took our kids to watch the Nutcracker, the performance did not disappoint and the seating was very comfortable. The consetions where well stocked and we enjoyed both wine and beer, along with the usual fair like popcorn, candy and soft drinks. The only thing that was surprising was the number of people who chose to move into empty seats at more expensive spots in the theater because not one was checking for tickets. We will definitely visit the Lucas again and hope to...
