We have stayed at Fort William Henry before and our first visit was pretty nice. No really complaints besides it’s a little dated, could use a refresh but it’s fine. This visit the staff was very friendly and welcoming but when we arrived to our room (room 252) my husband immediately said “it smells like air freshener in here” but I thought it smelled like cigarette smoke being covered up by air freshener. Like a smokers car. I was a little irritated by it but it wasn’t bad enough to ask to switch rooms. Then we went to put our coats in the closet and the closet door was off the track and couldn’t be opened unless you were really forceful (which made me nervous because it was a mirrored door) so once I opened it I left it open. The cleaning staff came the next morning and closed the door so they are obviously aware that there’s an issue at this point if they didn’t know before. The next problem was I went to adjust the thermostat and the little door that covers the controls on the heater was broken and I had to pry it open and bend over to see inside to adjust. Still at this point not enough to want to switch rooms just inconvenient and annoying. The curtains lose with only sheer curtains and the thicker curtains don’t close. Not because they’re broken but because they aren’t meant to close so I couldn’t sleep with the bright lights from the walkway behind the building shining in my eyes all night. The second night I decided to take advantage of the jacuzzi tub and when I pressed the button to start the jets the button fell off in my hand. It was obviously already broken and just put on in hopes no one would notice. So at this point I’m feeling like we have a hexed room but it’s our last night and I didn’t want to pack up to switch rooms so we stayed. By 11:30 my allergies (which I normally don’t suffer from) were so bad I was wheezing and my eyes were red and bloodshot as well as a stuffy nose so we decided enough was enough and packed up to leave. I was fed up enough at this point to pack up my things and drive home at almost midnight. When my husband checked out the host took my husbands email so they could contact us about the bill. No one has called or emailed so the lack of response coupled with the obvious disregard for the state of that room has led me to believe no one cares. They don’t care about the rooms or their customers. This is the off season now is the time they should be fixing things in the rooms, they aren’t cheap and no one wants to stay in a room that feels cheap and uncomfortable when they spend a lot of money. Just to add, the wall paper was peeling all over the room in different places and above the shower. There was a big crack along the ceiling as well as some cobwebs. Also the sheer curtain was off the track as well and I feel like all of these things are fixable with minimal effort which is why I’m only giving 2 stars, 1 for the view and 1 for the nice staff. The white lion was quite...
Read moreJust NOT worth it!! There are so many bad reviews about this place, mainly about the economy rooms, but let me tell you about the BEST rooms. We paid upwards of $250 for a Mountain View room in the main Hotel building. We were given a room on the 5th floor facing the parking lot with mountains in the background. Well played.... Upon entering the room we were smacked with the overwhelming stench reminiscent of Body Odor. B.O. It was disgusting. We turned on the air and propped the hall door to see if we could air out the room, but the stench held on. Contacted housekeeping and they claimed they could not smell it. Called maintenance and Rodney admitted to smelling it and said he would try to take care of it. Since we were there to attend wedding functions, we had a dinner to get to off site. Upon returning to room, stench still there. Called down to front desk and supposedly they replaced a belt. ??? On what? The B.O. machine?? We powered through the night only to keep waking up to that stench. I used an entire travel size bottle of Febreze in that room and it did not even touch that smell. The next day for the wedding on site we used perfume and cologne and prayed the stench had not stuck to our clothes and selves. Now, the windows DO open, but there were NO screens and we kept hearing ticking on the windows and discovered that there were swarms of wasps nesting in the eaves! Even if we wanted to let the air in, we could not. Incidentally, we had a room adjoining with family. Their window was broken and wasps got inside!! Um, their window was broken...five floors up. A little dangerous, no? Other things to note, beds very small, as two regular size adults we had the worst time sleeping between the lack of room and the stench. Also, my safe mysteriously timed out when we were at breakfast downstairs, even though we used a code we always use in hotel safes. Maintenance guy told us that happens when you use the wrong code too many times... Good things? The view over the lake. It’s basically what you are paying for. And my breakfast skillet from the White Lion was very good. Though service was a bit disorganized. We will NOT be returning...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of having our wedding hosted at the Carriage House in August 2023, the newly renovated wedding venue space at Fort William Henry Hotel, and we couldn't have asked for a more magical experience! From the moment we began planning, the wedding coordination team at Fort William Henry Hotel impressed us with their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm for making our special day perfect. They were incredibly responsive and accommodating, answering all of my questions promptly and working seamlessly with our vendors to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day of (including a vendor that hung disco balls from the ceiling to accepting delivery of icecream cakes from the local grocery store!) The ceremony and reception set up were executed flawlessly, exactly as we had requested. We brought in a lot of DIY decor elements, and the team did an exceptional job of arranging everything beautifully, even consolidating it for easy pick up the day after the wedding. It was such a relief to know that I could trust them to handle all the day of details with care and precision. I also opted to rent the private space on the second floor of the Carriage House for getting ready with my bridal party, and it was the perfect choice. The spacious area provided a comfortable and luxurious environment for hair and makeup preparations, with the added convenience of a large bathroom. The breakfast setup was a lovely touch, allowing us to start the day off right with delicious food. And let's not forget about the breathtaking backdrop of Lake George for our ceremony. The picturesque view added to the beauty of our vows, creating memories that will last us a lifetime. Overall, our experience at Fort William Henry Hotel exceeded all expectations, thanks to the exceptional service, stunning venue, and attention to detail provided by the FWH team. We are truly grateful for their role in making our wedding day...
